Hello, mates.

I read all about it and tried several options with zip drive connection. I got MPC 3k LE and IOMEGA ZIP 100. What I've tried:

1) setting scsi routing to 5 or 6
2) both zip scsi ports in zip drive
3) formatting disk without having the disk recognised (I read that it's possible)
4) putting random zips into the drive
5) i've exchanged the fuse from n25 to ptc rue 110.

All that didn't help and I'm really pissed, because I've bought the drive with lots of zip disks and i need it. What's next: I want to avoid buying new scsi board (not to mention that I can't afford it now - I need to get it from USA).

P.S. I've changed the fuse today and when I switched on mpc after that I've noticed it's strange act: normally the screen just shows the 'AKAI CO.' etc. but now it went BLANK and with all lights on for maybe 10 seconds and then jumped to screen where it looks for scsi drive.

Thanks for the feedback in advance.

If I were you I'd return the MPC to a state in which it worked as soon as possible, forget about Zips and get a CF card reader. If you really did read "all about it" you'd know that pretty much nobody recommends Zip drives as they are simply too unpredictable and too unreliable for critical storage applications.

Can you explain why you "need it" [zip drive and discs] if you've never used them before, I don't get that part.

Also can you post pics and details of your 3000LE in this thread viewtopic.php?f=4&t=142161, thanks in advance.

yeh, although it should function, ditch the zip, and hook yourself up with a cf drive. Our brother seed87 is selling some seriously dope units right now, so hit him up and he can sort you out with one.

Thank You, clint.

Why do I say that I need the zips? hence I've never used them? Well, it's just because I'm keeping all my projects on floppies and I wanted to have a bigger storage place and maybe more reliable storage place. I've read different opinions about zips, mate. Some people say they won't crush, other just curse on them. Whatever, it's not important any more, I think. I decided to risk and it was a mistake, but there was no other option to just check does it work or not.

I'll do what You said: I'll just solder (in an electronic shop) the old fuse back and we'll see. I got no point why the whole unit crushed. Seems weird.

And I'll admit to my lack of knowladge in the topic as far as CF option is concerned. Didn't know abut that. Please, just let me know if it's a specific type od CF drive/is it internal or external?

For sure I'll post pictures of my mp in the thread, thanks. And in fact I've got a question to You or to whom it may concern:

do You know anybody who'd like to sell side panels for mpc 3k LE? I got mine unit with damaged side panels and I want to make it look as good as it gets. It's my baby, no doubt.

Thanks again, clint, your help is priceless since I got nobody who uses this maschines and can give me a piece of advice.

Thanks for the advice micb. Seed87 is the member of the forum, aye? I was trying to find him and send him a private message, but I couldn't find him.

To be honest you might struggle to find some original MPC3000/LE side panels. You could try asking at MPC Stuff, VST Service or Forat to see if they can help and save a search on eBay. Bear in mind the original MPC3000 side panels are a different colour to the LE ones which will be ever harder to find. Otherwise some custom wooden side panels may be your only real option.

Thanks for the feedback.

Today I finally solved the problem: it was the 4A fuse (marked F2 inside the mpc - by the fan) which was blown. The F901 which I exchanged is fine and hasn't been burnt.

The suggestion about cf reader is good, but the point is that the scsi port is f*** up most probably. I got to this conclusion when I exchanged the F2 fuse and connected the scsi cable from zip drive to mpc scsi port WITHOUT SWITCHING ON THE ZIP DRIVE. Even though the mpc got blank screen (but this time without all red lights on) and didn't want to start. When I unplugged the scsi cable after switching it off and when I switched it on again everything was fine.

Does anybody have a clue what problem can it be?

Thanks

OK, I am pretty sure it is the same with zips, but I know with cf readers, the correct way you should power on your units are as follows.

1.Insert your chosen cf card (or zip disk) into your reader
2.Make sure your cf reader or zip is connected to your mpc with the scsi cable.
3.Power up your cf reader unit (if external), or zip drive.
4.Power up your MPC.

In other words, do not connect scsi units to the mpc while the mpc is powered up. It can have tendencies to blow fuses this way.

I am not saying this is the definite cause of your particular problem, but it is worth making sure this pattern is followed.

Thank You, Micb, but it was kind of obvious for me. That's why the issue is so tricky - I've done everything properly, You know, but the scsi port seems to cause short circuit as soon as something is plugged into it (EVEN when the external zip drive is unplegged from the electric socket). And I'm kinda worried, because I might have to buy new scsi board and I'm not really sure where to get it and what's the exact type of it.

Also... shut off your MPC first, then the SCSI Zip last.

Yes, Juke, I've done it exactly as Micb and You have said, not the other way round. The problem starts as soon as the scsi cable is plugged in and when I put the power switch on.

And there is one thing I've noticed: on both sides of the scsi port two holes for screws are placed and in one of them a piece of broken screw stuck. I think that the previous owner f**** something up, don't know, maybe he forced it and something was shooked in the scsi port. However: there are no broken pins inside the port.
