Might require saving on the MPC and the ASR as well. (Floppy or zip for each respectively. If you see an MPC with a CF reader definitely get that one).
But again I don't work in that way where I save the whole session with MIDI settings program/bank data in the DAW. So I couldn't even tell you how to set that up or how well the MPC/ASR combo do that type of session saving with PT as the DAW. But for real man there's literally a hundred dudes here daily who can answer that more definitively. In many cases guys who use those 2 samplers with PT.
Generally speaking the Korg is newer and will be very easy to save settings/songs/patches in the DAW. It has it's own editor that would load as a plugin AU or RTAS.
On your question of alternatives, I have no experience with those types of outboard recorders. But again most everyone else here does. In that scenario same thing, look in the archives for ASR/MPC XL or have someone confirm how to save the program changes/lsb/msb MIDI data to have the hardware fire up in the same state.
I'm going to have to actually plug them in for the first time in a couple years here to personally be able to answer those questions about saving.
