not really... 1.20 is the newest version... it's identical to 1.14 except it works for IDE cf card readers that wont function in 1.14.. once in a while a cf reader model might work in 1.14... it doesn't happen often that you find one... so 1.20 removed a thing or two to fit the new data (like in 1.20 the 1gb cf card size thing where it views all cards like they are 1 gb)


generally... you would always go with 1.14, but if you have no choice then use 1.20.

Why is the preference to go with 1.14 over 1.20? By your description it sounds like 1.20 is better, no?

no... 1.14 can make use of 16gb cf cards if you can find the type of atapi cf reader that scsiforsamplers used to have when he was in business... it ran on 1.14... but most ide/atapi cf readers can only work on 1.20, which makes the machine see all cards as 1gb only even if you have a 2gb inserted.

something got stripped from 1.14 to fit in the atapi compatibility bit in 1.20.

no not exactly.. but I seem to remember a thread where JD explained sort of how or why it worked... something about some being just IDE compatible, and some being full atapi... in other words... atapi being the protocol, and IDE simply being the physical connection... OS 1.2 having the "driver" that could make use of IDE but 1.14 not needing to because the controller on some CF readers taking care of that? not sure if that makes sense... but that is what I seem to remember.

I'm using OS1.14c with a SCSI card reader and a partitioned 8GB CF card.
With OS1.14 you can partition your Zips and flash cards. OS 1.2 you can't partition at all.

The OS differences are described perfectly in the product's description. I have that same one and I use 1.20 precisely for the fact that I can still fill the cards on a PC. I just get 2GB cards and format them at 1GB.
