Okay so after a lot of research around this subject with a little trial and error I think I've found a solution to a problem that plagues a lot of Mpc users. First there are two different methods and in this post I'll illustrate both to increase your effectiveness.
The first method you will draw in each note. With these methods tempo is very important so instead of using ie. 90bpm you will want to use 180bpm. The chart below will give you note placement with "0" being the down or first beat of the measure or bar.
MPC GRID ROLL STEPS:
1/8 = 0, 48
1/8-3 = 0, 32, 64
1/16 = 0, 24, 48, 72
1/16-3 = 0, 16, 32, 48, 62, 80
1/32 = 0, 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84
1/32-3 = 0, 8, 16, 24, 32, 40, 48, 56, 64, 72, 80, 88
So a 1/16 note roll would look like this:
In Grid edit mode (Mode+Pad 15) with Step Record On (Overdub)
**
1st note- 001.01."00"
2nd note-001.01."24"
3rd note- 001.01."48"
4th note- 001.01."72"
End Measure
Now with the above chart just step record your notes in while using shift+data wheel to advance by tick and shift+bar to advance by note. This method is cool because you have alot of control with where you want to place your notes and with practice its really fast.
Now this second method maybe specific to the JJOS Im not 100% sure but if not this workaround is a little quicker than drawing and will give great results as well.
Auto Step w/ Note repeat:
- Grid Edit=Shift+ Pad 15
- Overdub/step record
- Hold Note repeat
- Use your F-Keys to change the grid settings ie. 1/8 etc.
- Now whatever pad you want to add the roll to the Mpc will now advance automatically after tapping in your notes.
- Then use loop edit + view to adjust the velocity for each note and timing.
** While in Grid Edit use the window key to set Step Increment to Auto.
So there it is I really hope this helps those producers like myself that didnt think this was possible with the 1000. I really thought I had to use software to accomplish this but Im getting amazing results this these methods. Let me know if you have any questions and if this helps. Peace.
