Decided to get an mpc 1000 and also jjos pretty soon, and was wondering if it's possible to record a sample while a sequence is recording and have it set to an number of bars.

I've used a an rs7000 and it has a feature where there is possible (though it had no count in which was annoying). Basically you could just record over the top of a sequence as it played, then it would automatically play a note to trigger the sample in perfect time. The next best thing to having a dedicated looper.

I actually have a looping device, but would probably sell it if I could achieve something like this (wouldn't necessarily even have to be real time - don't mind having to stop to begin recording).

Thanks!

mostly yes.. Depends what you mean by "while a sequece is recording" (did you mean while a seq is playing??)

With an audio track, you can record a sample while hearing the sequence playing in the background. I am not sure if this will also record pad strikes and external midi.
You can also record a sample in the audio loop mode while the sequence plays back, you can even overdub but the audio looper has a few weird limitations which make it a bit half assed compared to a proper looper. I'd keep the looper if I were you.

You can also start audio recording in the recording mode and just hit play and hear the sequence play in the background, so the answer is probably yes, but you'll need to be more specific in what you expect (there are always little details)

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I did mean while the sequence is playing, not recording.

For example, I make a 2 bar drum beat with samples. Then if I want to play a melody by hand on a synth with no midi, I want to be able to hit record(Preferably with a count in) and then play over that initial sequence and have the mpc automatically record (the audio) only from the start of the first bar, to the end of the second - basically so I don't have to go in and chop it. And then, ideally, to place a note on at the start of the first bar.

I did a search on this and it I didn't get any concrete answer but I got the feeling it couldn't be done.

yeah, audiotrack feature will do it, it just stops audio after rec (at least it was like that) and as you hit play again it plays this new audio part with sequenced tracks.

It would be far better to do that as midi if possible as audio tracks are a pain to work with
