MPC5000 reviews, bug reports and fellow user support on the most recent standalone, hardware MPC from Akai

This 5000 has been sitting in the pawn shop for the past three months or more just collecting dust. At the time, it was listed at $840.00 firm. Once a week, I would check to see if it's still there and it was. Today, I went there and the price was listed at $420.00 with a big half off sticker. The only wanted to give me 120.00 for my maxed out mpc 1000. No thanks!

I will be putting my mpc 1000 on ebay tonight but I cannot believe I purchased an mpc 5000 for only $420.00 dollars.

Really, congrats man! I've been looking out for one of those! Hope I'll get that lucky!

Even on ebay, the cheapest 5000 is no less than 700 dollars. It's important to me because I do tons of remixes using acapellas so I am hoping the 8 track hard disk recorder is exactly what I need.

This is what I like to do so I am looking to remix and burn to CD all in one device.

WHAT A DEAL!!!! The 5000 is a fantastic machine, despite it being the MPC that many people love to hate! I'd pick up the MPC Tutorial for it, which is quite useful for learning many features along with the manual...
Being that most of these hardware samplers are going to be hard to find eventually, I say hold on to your 1000 in case you ever want to use it in the future. Plus, your maxed out 1000 (assuming good condition) should hold it's value.

Congrats!

Realistically, thats probably what its worth. Good find nevertheless, just don't come back bitching about the bugs. Nobody else wanted it for a reason...

Give it some time.

The sequencer timing is whack.
It crashes. It occassionally won't start
Design flaws.

Nevertheless I have a fondness for mine and $450 is a great price.

That is a huge price reduction!! Did you test the unit fully before leaving the shop?
Check all the features? Asked why the drop in price? Sometime dealers will drop the price because it is simply not selling or moving off their shelf, but, other times it's because the unit might have issues. Hopefully, that is not the case with yours.
Nice score if everything is 100%!!

After months of being on the shelf, they decided to sell it for the money they put into it. I don't know too many people that are going into the pawn shop to spend $840 dollars. I tested the unit out and there are no issues. I just sold my MPC 1000, Zoom
Sampletrak, and Tascam 8 track recorder to recoup my money. I posted my first video of the 5000 here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaRylTEpzec

If the 5000 is such crap, why are they still selling for so much? I just think people fell into that whole just blaze 5000 rampage and since then, people think there are problems with it.

Honestly, this was Numark's (now InMusic Brands: Akai, Alesis, Numark, M-Audio) attempt to lure dedicated and die-hard MPC followers to something that would make them forget about the MPC4000 (or other Classic MPC's) due to Numark no longer supporting the MPC4000 after the hostile takeover happend. The MPC5000 really never lived up to the MPC4000, (spec wise) it was never an upgrade from the MPC4000, if anything, it was something MPC2500 users can gravitate too. The hard-disk record feature and the oscillators they put in the MPC5000 was about the only thing that intrigued me, it has a synth-type sound engine. but it wasn't enough to make me purchase one.
You won on this deal. Max out the Ram and get the CD/DVD Rom.

Man, that is a great find! Gotta love pawn shops:)Even though it may have a few small bugs, there are usually easy work arounds. That price is less than Maschine,MPC Studio, etc. and they certainly are not bug free and require a computer which introduces a whole new host (pun intended) of complications.Would I buy a 5000 for $1,000?No, but at $500 or less I would jump on it without hesitation provided it is in decent condition.

American Musical still has this scratch and dent 5000 for over $1600: http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-AKA-MPC5000-LIST

Guitar Center still have them for over $1800: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Akai-Profes ... 1389578.gc

I just picked up a used MPC 500 for $250. I love it, but if I see his big brother for $500 or less he will no longer be an only child. lol

Yeah, nice having a battery powered unit. I also found a 64GB CF card on Amazon that works with the 500. It is a Dolgix 133. Like having a hard drive!
