can i plug a USA 2000xl into uk power ?

Currently using a costly converter that humms all the time , i have heard rumours that the MPC2000xl has an automatic power detection device that senses 60-50hz and 120-240/250volts . Is this true , can i just change the plug ? thanks in advance

just check the back of the mpc - it will tell you a safe operating voltage (not in front of mine or would look for you).

Aah , mine says 120v 60hz 23w . Guess i gotta put up with the humm from the damn transformer thingy for some time then !

i understand from this forum that i can loose the hard drive and cd rom , by putting in a card reader where the floppy is ?
i got one of these "IDE CF Drive with ivory color bay bracket ADIDECF " so once i get it delivered and find a compatible card i can turn the seagate hardrve off ! cos that makes even more noise !

Has anyone used an ADIDECF from aimtec uk before ? i need advice on what cards to use please ?

i use a 4gb sandisk card formatted in the mpc, 1gb usable max in the mpc the other 3gb's are unallocated (hidden) their cheaper than a 1gb card.

The sticker on the back does not always tell the full story.

If your MPC has the Skynet SNP-9541-M switching power supply installed, then you will be able to use it without a converter as it is a universal input power supply. Most MPCs in the US shipped with these, however you will have to check inside yours to make sure a different one is installed.

To check, you will have to open up your MPC and look at the model number of the installed power supply.

That card reader will work with the MPC, however it is more important to find a compatible Compact Flash card that is identified as a fixed drive by the MPC.

Many people here have had success with the Sandisk cards however it can be trial and error until you find one that works.

The 2000XL is dual voltage meaning it has a built in stepdown transformer inside the MPC to operate from 100VAC to 240VAC at 50/60 Hz.

I bought my 2000XL from California and used while in England, So. Korea, Norway, Germany and Qatar. I didn't have to use a transformer with it but I did have to buy a travel adapter with a ground for the different country specific outlet connections.

Took the plunge , unplugged bulky power converter from maplins , plugged in UK kettle lead , stood well back and turned it on !
No Bangs , house electrics stayed on . Hair not standing on end either !
Also , i opened up the hard disk and cd-rom drive , they have a 100-240volt sensor too !
I have completely done away with the maplins power converter . No more hums , result .
Also the Addonics IDE CF arrived this morning . Thanks for the advice on the cards to get logick1
Also big thanks to MPCHunter and JUKE 179r for the power supply information . And i think Mr Jazz or Mr JAZZ from AUS or OZ who mentioned this a while back.
So MPC's travel around the world and can plug in ANYWHERE ! they don't call them AKAI PROFESSIONAL for no reason then . . . .

next job , remove floppy and fix up the addonics IDE CF .

Do i really need to update the OS ? i have 1.11 from march 6 , 2000 . Will it support the Addonics ?
If so , where do i get it from and how i back up this one first , then load up ?

You can use either version 1.14 or 1.20 since the ADIDECF reader is not ATAPI.

USB floppy drive or find someone that has a computer with a floppy drive to use.

Can i put the operating system from AKAI website onto a CDrom ( dunno how tho ) , then put the cd rom into my MPC cdrom drive and load from there ?
i have been thru five buddies and none have floppydiscs or even floppy disc drives . .

i dont know if it works but you can download it, then burn it on to the cd-rom using toast or nero burn (or something similar)

you running windows or mac OSX?

i am sure both allow you to create burn folders on the desktop. just chuck the MPC os on there and BURN BABY BURN!

You wont need no water, just let the mother trucker burn!

also let me know your success with the ADIDECF from aimtec uk. i am in the process of researching into these and they have came up trumps and cheapest. I spoke to the technical team at aimtec uk and they said this works but is non hot swappable which is fine for me.

used NERO . It worked . ( windows media burner did not , got thru 8 discs tryin ) .
Copied new 1.2 / 1.14c onto cdrom in my laptop , put it on mpc . it all seems fine , just fired up MPC and played back some songs from attached hard drive from before the change , all ok .
so im gonna open up the mpc2000xl and add the addonics IDE-CF card reader . I have no cards yet , (on order) but at least i can get the power to it and loose the floppy . Now the new OS is on it , i am kinda guaranteed to not need the floppy .
I was surprised to see that the latest OS from the AKAIPRO.COM website was written in 2004 . I am sure i have seen another (on ebay) that is 1.7 or 1.72 , that comes on a floppy too . So im guessing that is even newer ? so why not on AKAI site ?
Anyway im happy to open up and get on with floppy removal now .
