Bug reports & end-user support for Akai's MPC Software 'controllers' including the new MPC Studio 2, the MPC Touch, MPC Renaissance & original MPC Studio and MPC StudioB lack.

I've tried setting up my sequences in song mode on the MPC Software but the GUI is terrible.. and when I play the song the cursor is completely off and the sequence lengths don't match the progression of the song..

Am I just sequencing my tracks wrong or is the MPC Software still.. buggy? :hmmm:

When I first started making music on the Ren, I did, but it was a nightmare. I find it's much easier to build up a track with however many loops you want (when the song is at its fullest) and then I export the stems and mess around with those in another software.

Honestly, it seems unnecessary to sequence it all in the software.

Yes most of my tracks are completed in the ren. I organize in song mode then bounce from song mode. Do my mixing in logic.

I'm able to sequence the whole thing in the MPC song mode and bounce to a track. Its working correctly, and have not notice any bugs. The menu can be clunky but in time you'll get used to it and its smooth sailing from there.

im a cubase guy , i bought the ren and when i first got it there was no chance i could write a track in the ren, it was far too backwards and things didnt do what they should, 1.3 came and its much much better but still not there, i do 90% in the ren and then export to cubase which is so much easier and much quicker to arrange the blocks etc.

please akai pay attention to the functionality of the arrangement side of things in stead of new functions,

75% is done on MPC. I find myself moving between studios and I need the stems to be portable so I export everything into Pro Tools and mix in that environment. Use different playlists in PT to show different arrangement possibilities to the client just in case they want something a little different.

No effing with stems on another sequencer.

I think that both methods are a creative effort in their own right. You have a bit more freedom when you stem tracks. Plus when I stem tracks, I can choose which loops I run through tape, etc. But everyone has their own methods, you know?

Yup.
It's just that, having made music for 20 years, I've realized that having some limits is a good thing, and often the whole limitlessness factor makes me work slower if/when i work in a digital domain as it's harder to call something finished as you can always come back to tweak it etc.
Some limits/restrictions are good for me as then I can't do a million things, so my personal preference when working with any hardware sampler is to stick with one master and that's it. It's not always the best mix in the world – although I strive to do the best I can – but it means I won't be wanking with a huge amount of channels...I can move on and make more music instead of tweaking that snare channel for days (I've been there, and still occasionally am) :)

I don't disagree with you for the most part. I think limitations spawn creativity in a musician/producer/etc. Honestly, I feel like when I had less to work with, I was actually doing a lot more creative things to get a certain sound. Thankfully, I don't have to do that anymore. But now it's this thing where you have too much freedom, and that becomes limiting! Go figure.

But how I've managed to deal with that is by calling it done on the first shot, then deleting the project. That way I have to accept the mix. If I don't like it, there's always next time.

Can I ask why? Doesn't the Ren's software support plugins properly? Is it really slow and awkward with the Ren? Or some other reason?

Note: I've never used the Ren, just interested in buying one.

Plug ins do not slow anything down. There are a cpl plug ins like ik multimedia stuff that have small visual issues but if you browse around here for a min u will see what plug ins people are having issues with. For the most part it's rockin pretty damn smooth now.

I bounce to logic cause I get full daw visuals and simple gain stages that I create and control. Makes mixing easier. But really you can do a ruff mix in mpc software, maybe a full mix. But with my styley of work I bounce. If your thinking of getting one. I'd say do it. The ren is a beast. (Ok maybe a beast in training) I've owned mpc for 10+ yrs and I think the ren and studio are the truth.
