Is Komplete 9 worth getting?

Whats good yall. im a little tired of the sounds i currenty own and I was thinking about purchasing komplete 9 to use with my mpc 2500(jjos xl). But I'm not sure about the sound library, as far as the quality of the samples. just wanted some info from anyone who worked with any of the komplete series before. How is quality with the samples, how are the accoustic instruments vs. synths, is there something better out there (etc).
Any info would help alot!

Pound for pound Komplete is the best value in the industry in my opinion. The synths are all excellent and the included sounds in Kontakt and Battery are very useable. Kontakt is really nice in conjunction with an MPC as you can set it up for multitimbral operation and send 16 MIDI tracks to Kontakt. Battery is also very easy to set up in a 64 cell grid arrangement with 4 banks and have it match the MPC 's pad/bank layout, if you want to have more drums/one shots at the ready while saving some memory in the MPC.

I skipped the 8 upgrade but I'll have to get the 9 one before too long.

Kontakt and battery alone already will give you inspirational sounds to use with the MPC or sample on the MPC. NI synths aren't my cup of tea but other people like them. I prefer Arturia synths. I'm still using kontakt 4 to this day and feel no reason to upgrade to kontakt 5. That's how good kontakt is

So you're getting Komplete just for the sounds?

Well yeah, I just wanted to add to my sound library to what I already have.

But of course I'm gonna use some of the new features if I decide to get it!

hefty cost but well worth it.

Is there anything new in the absynth line? I always liked that one.. you can make it do some really nice stuff.

Still on version 5 but 4 and 5 were a nice improvement from Absynth 3. Absynth, FM8 and Massive, I'm not really sure what they could do to take them further than they are now. So while I love new updates there's something to be said for software that flat out is fine as is.

They seem the last few years to have focused more on new higher quality FX, playable sample libraries (like how George Duke works in Kontakt or Session Strings), and then more niche synths like Razor and the new Monark which is also Reaktor based I think. (I got Diva I'm not paying the Monark much mind. Out of need though, it looks good).

I have version 4 for absynth... and while most of my friends or even people i've met and we talked about absynth... I am one of the only people who likes that one. Okay at first I wasn't a huge fan, but then I figured out something about that synth that makes it really good.. haha... have not tried version 5.. im not sure what the upgrade is (maybe newer system support and more patch presets or something.. who knows)

fm8 is pretty good... not sure what they could add there... though I dont use it much.. mostly for long general pad sounds that are easy to tweak and throw under a filter or something like that.

Yeah with FM8 it's like unless you want Yamaha DX it's a little more work for other stuff, and I reach for a standard subtractive synth instead. But stil a great plugin and probably the standard I'll hold Propellerheads' PX-& to if I check that out ever.

Generally 5 is just the honed version of 4, like 3 to 4 was a bigger jump. And yes, a lot of the improvement is in the preset browsing and GUI cleanliness.

I bought Absynth 3 prior to complete and waited a while because it had this reputation as being really hard to program or tweak. The guy at the awesome store Robotspeak in SF,CA was like "nah dude, do you even vaguely get modular synths?" I was like "yeah sure". He was like then buy it you won't be sorry.

But he was right, you have to understand is a modular in disguise like U-he Zebra or Diva to a lesser degree. After that I loved the OSC/FX modular nature, as the majority of it is wired for you and you just decide what components to mix.

I also heard it wasn't suited for simpler VA type sounds and good low bass, but I found that false too.

Man I gotta get ajob so I can get my Komplete upgrade (and Live and Reason and Push...it never ends.... )

for low bass?.. I find that false as well... it's all about textures IMO.. well I suppose the bass that those dubstep idiots refer to as "wicked bass" that is actually a midrange above 250hz hahahaha... yeah I suppose you could say it can do well.. but even then there are better tools for dubstep chainsawing migraine synths. I think absynth is the tool that when you find a lead or a bass or even an ambient pad swelling effect in the background or what ever... absynth is the thing you layer onto that to give it the added effect grainy addition to accompany the main sound.. sometimes it may not be great as the root of the chord.. hard to explain. But for example.. let's say you had a solid bass synth like a sine wave style bass which is plain.. you could add the grain with something like absynth easily.

same shit as layering your 808 kick with some midrangee kick which we do all the damn time. it keeps it interesting sounding.

No this was back in 2005 when Dubstep still meant what it should like a Mala record.

Seriously, same as you just init a patch from scratch or strip one down for just basic sine/square/pwm low bass. It didn't always sound like analog. but thicker than people seemed to give it credit for.


I also feel that like Reason and Live the audio rendering of the NI synths has improved over the last 6 years or so. I think companies just don't make a big deal because it basically says "yeah our old digital summing actually did suck...you guys were right.."
