I don't think so. Take Logic for example. When Logic crashes, it tells you it's crashing, and it saves your project as a crash file. There's nothing inconvenient about that.

Except, when my Logic crashes, it never saves where I left off. Either the plug-in I added last is reset or not present at all.

But true. Still better than redoing a larger part of your project. ;)

I'll only speak for myself.

When I started using the session backup function in Pro Tools, life got a lot easier. Knowing I always had a back up saved within the last 5 minutes....great. Pro Tools crashed every now and then.

While it's closing in on a month since my MPC software has crashed, I'd still want an autosave/backup function. Crashes are one thing....but with the erratic and limited functionality of the UNDO/REDO buttons....yeah. Sometimes I'm like..."man, let me go back to 10 minutes ago" or sometimes something completely random will change/the software will get glitchy.

I didn't need auto anything with my XL, because nothing ever crashed, undo worked fine, nothing ever got glitchy.

Honestly I really think the only reason I've been so long without a crash is because the computer I'm running the software on now is a damn warlock beast machine. I think If I was still running it on my laptop, I may not have gone so far without one.

Autosave is great. But I still save my projects all the time since sometimes you can't rely on autosave. It CAN save you a lot of time when the software crashes, but it'll annoy you sooner or later by autosaving at the most inconvenient moments.

You wanna talk over the top, lets talk about half those plugins your loading in your DAW of choice lol  . Backing up your work for you dosnt seem over the top... Seems like a logical feature for such a buggy system.

Yeah duh, but it's gonna be a while. And there will always be the odd plugin crash even then. So in the mean time...

To me autosave is bad because Im an adult and can save when i want to. Nor, do I need the app autosaving over a file I dont want it to, that can be tragic (it would be cool if every project saved a backup file like reape, though ). now a crash rebuild like ableton make sense. They should also have plugs run as seperate processes. This is pretty standard nowdays to stop plug in crashes but I dont have much faith in their developers, personally.

Only on this forum would you see people against a fail safe feature which in any implementation you care to mention is something that can be toggled.

Its not about being an adult its about product that has some issues .Let me be clear even when save your stuff it still crashes .There is even a video on you tube when dude tried to save his project and it crashed .

Well, its better to fix up the bugs and crashes instead of just putting a band-aid on it. Don't make this easy for Akai or you'll be in 2015 still waiting for the real fixes.

On page one I described how Ableton deals with this. Having an autosave or a recovery mode that prompts the user after a crash is not in place of fixing bugs or crashes. It's to give you a chance to minimize the damage and data losses if a crash does occur.

Again I would prefer software to not crash, but if Live crashed 1000 times (I have crashed Live 3 times daily for as many as 3 years straight so I have crashed it many 1000's of times), I have been able to restore the session every time.

It's a safety net that I simply can not see why someone would not want.

To me autosave is good because I'm an adult and can watch the software crash when it wants to. :smoker:
