On OS X, you can aggregate multiple audio interfaces into one device.

Logic will allow you to select one device as an input and another as an output.
You can Aggregate in Pro Tools. Mac only though....

Without the 'aggregate' functionality you can't select two audio devices within Pro Tools or Logic's Audio Preferences.

Without using mac osx aggregate device functionality Logic can use one interface as an input and another interface an output. You can find this in Logic's audio preferences.

I still think if this is being seen in both scenarios on the respective OS's it has to be rooted in the driver on Windows and the parts of the code that interact with Core Audio if you're on OS X.
I'd imagine if enough people can report the situations with details that happen on both the OS's Akai would not have too hard a time to pinpoint the cause and straighten it out pretty quick in a future update.
+1 makes sense
.....while it seems like a cool idea to be able to select an Input and Output device in the Ren's preferences, most DAWs won't allow you to have multiple audio interfaces selected in their Audio preferences. Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase, etc allows you to select only one device in preferences.

My error. You are right. Logic and Live I can set different Input and Output devices. I will play with them tonight to see how well they work. Pro Tools (without aggregate) will only allow one audio choice; Maschine does the same.

This hasn't been my experience. I can hear the vintage modes just fine with only my other interface set as the input and output or do you mean something else?

konc3pt is referring to the "MPC3000 circuitry" part of the vintage mode that Akai was hyping for the Ren, which can only be heard through the output of the Ren's interface.
