The Ren costs 7x more than an MPD. To suggest Akai didn't add capabilities to the Ren because it would negatively impact MPD sales makes zero sense. Increased Ren sales would give them more profit not less.
As far as the original topic, I am unable to get the Ren and Live to work where the Ren's pads can record into Live. I've contacted developers to see if this is a bug or if I am doing something wrong.
What I find is as soon as you insert the MPC VST in Live, an 'MPC' MIDI import port becomes available. In Pro Tools this port is allows you to use the Ren's pads to record into any Pro Tools' track that has the 'MPC' port set as its MIDI Input. In Live, I can' get this 'MPC' port to work although it is available.
So if I am doing everything right, this looks like a bug as it works perfectly in Pro Tools.
