Never used software based synths before, was able to get Massive to get triggered via keyboard connected to Ren, but was not able to record it or successfully add it to the plugin or midi realm.... :?

I have two multi-timbral keys connected to the Ren Midi ports that work just fine.

I tried to add Massive to the plugin list and it appeared but nothing happens. Apparently I'm doing something wrong or its not compatible.

I'm not sure that I fully understand what you're saying but if you're saying that you've loaded Massive on a track but when you trigger the keys from your keyboard controller that nothing happens then my first guess would be that either you don't have your midi cables connected correctly or you don't have your midi interface/port selected within the Ren's preferences.
Check both of those and let us know if that doesn't work.

WTF? So these software synths act as standalone units that make only one sound at a time? And you have to somehow open multiple ones to be multi-timbral? Thus eating up more memory? I thought this Massive would have the same behavior as the ren plug-ins. I'm sure glad that software was a gift.

That's it I'm done with this stuff I'm back to my real hardware

Bro..please dont take this as an insult...but even a moderate computer can run a bunch of instances of Massive without problems. Your "Thus eating up more memory" comment is not a concern like it used to be. I have to assume you are new to computers but I am sure you are not running Windows 95 or something like that. If you are looking for multi-timbral softsynths ...they are indeed out there... for instance I own Omnisphere VST which I can play 8 different midi channels into it. also Kontakt and many others work. Don't give up so soon... I come from hardware also and I think you will eventually love it if you just dont run back everytime something bugs you.

There's like one week lately. Not just disappointment they can't do what they wanted but like mad about it... :hmmm: :Sigh:

A guy yesterday thought it was insane he would have to tune/detune sounds to make a kit work, and further than that was mad he would even have to make kits/PGM.

Salty ass 21st century... :Sigh:

Bettermousetrap stay with your hardware, sounds like you're not ready for all this computer stuff. I just wonder how you get Massive as a gift.....

For the sake of clarity the OP might want to absorb the distinction between how synth virtual or hardware is different from a multi-timbral workstation type of proposition or a synth that might be a hybrid of those two design philosophies.

Because even if Massive allowed for multi timbral operation it would in effect be the same thing as running as 2-16 of them. Each sound is going to require it's own synth engine to generate the sounds.

You're getting it confused. Massive is a multi-oscillator synthesizer. The word oscillator just simply means waves. The word synthesizer means you're just making it up from scratch (like synthetic fiber, or synthetic blood, or synthetic heart transplant). A synthesizer can very well make a sound of a baby crying, or a bird chirping, or replicate the sound of a lion, or a trumpet sound by just using oscillators. It's not a real baby crying, or a real bird.. but it's a synthesized sound.

That's what massive is for.

A hardware synthesizer (many of them), already have these sounds made up & stored (already synthesized) in its hardware. This enables you to (possibly) be multi-timbral. Usually these are called workstations (but not all of them).. or something like the popular JUNO's. It's for people who like to take the sounds that are already made by the manufacture & just tweak it a little or add some filters to it. Many of these (Again, not all) come with multi layering capabilities. The layering won't change the two instrument sounds, but it will just play as if it's 2 people playing each of his/her own instrument - under the strike of one midi key

The modulations on the bottom right of massive are probably the best & easiest weapon of all in any synths out in the market. You might have gotten it for free, but don't take it for granted... it's actually one of the most powerful software synths with an enormous amount of wave tables.

Of course the more voices you got playing all at once, the more work you are putting the hardware through.

The only thing connected to my laptop is the ren via USB

I sync a standalone digital recorder for vocals, etc and a few Keyboards to the ren through the midi ports

I thought " Massive " would behave like the MPC plugins, which can be assigned to run multiple sounds within the software.

Apparently I need to connect my laptop to the ren via some midi-cable to even get software like Massive to work? For I was unable to get ONE sound to record using the USB connection

I haven't even gotten to first base with massive to move on the base 2
