Never been to a record fair, been to a few stores (and really want to hit up A-1 records when I get the chance) but as a n00b to record fairs, what can you vet's who've been-there-done-that suggest for me?

What should I do?
What shouldn't I do?
Price-Haggle tips?
etc. etc.

never start jumping up and down when you find "the heat"...

breath control...

never pay full price...

dont sleep on hank williams jr...

avoid the "digitally remastered" trash...

always throw an extra record in the sleeve when buying to pad your "stats"...

check for warps and scratches of course...

avoid the brittle azz 78s... like the plague...

even if youre not going to cop a record, check the sleeve for roaches, cannabis and otherwise...

dont forget to snatch all the 45 adaptors from all the 7inches...

the bigger the stack, the less likely they will count them...

gang graffiti'ed covers are a must cop, no matter how warped or scratched...

dont forget your jeweler's loupe to read the etchings carefully...

remember that tommy aint your **** boy son...

watch out for bootlegs...

and last but not least.

ask each and every vendor if they got that edan shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :smoker:

follow these somewhat loosely and you are guaranteed to come home with a shit eating grin... :-D

oh. and maybe even some cool records....

buy this album and have wonderful day

oh always check the condition and the record matches the sleeve

cop'd this about a few weeks back at a local shop

foded, some of your tips sound shady. I aint tryna cheat no one no matter the situation, I believe in Karma and would HATE for me to be caught slipping and cheated.

sorry man.

sometimes im not completely serious when i post. i thought it would be obvious.

i understand your karma respect...

i hate when people take bomb recs and leave the covers.

but i also, although not probably applicable at a "record fair", think sometimes its "ok" in a "karmic sense" to "rescue" all the 45 adaptors... depending on the situation and location of course...

also. counting the recs is up to the employee. IF i count em, im pretty honest for the most part.... i cant say im perfect though.

but enough of my "digging morals"...

to be honest. a "record fair" is probably a place where you consider EXACTLY what youre looking for and what youre WILLING to pay ahead of time and go on a hunt for that type of stuff...

because this is a gathering of people who know their records and what theyre worth in THE REAL WORLD, i wouldnt consider it a great place for "DIGGING" for random jewels... i mean it could be, but your paying someone who in all probability knows more about the record than you do via this approach in regards to "DIGGING"...

just my opinion but taking advantage of the knowledge of the vendors and the access they may provide is a much more "strategic" way of going about your time at such a sale... the elusive jewel that you are willing to pay a fair price for... not the random "come up" that i myself associate with "DIGGING"...

hopefully you understand what im trying to say, and i apologize for posting less than seriously in your topic initially.... :-D :smoker:

anyhow. hope you enjoyed your outing.

i havent been on a strictly record mission in quite a while.

Hit up all the $1 bins, dealers don't know as much as they think they do.

If they ask 'are you looking for something' keep the answer as vague as possible!

ALWAYS check the condition and you can use this to haggle down prices too.

Don't skip any genre, there is always misfiled records in other genre's

Get there Nice and EARLY. Some of the best / cheapest ish will go soon.

All the above were serious points PS Edan you are the bomb and I hate you for flipping that Klaus Wunderlich break before me :)

yea I've found some dope albums in the dollar bins, think I might go on a dollar bin thing for a while. just finished playing a dollar bin find from "U.K - Danger Money" Lp, def worth more than a buck in my opinion.

yeah I can see going early as a good idea... but I also can see how the vendor loading back up all the unsold shit and that being hard work as being an advantage at the end of the day. That may be a good time to get a trunk full for cheap.

I'm one of the guilty crooks that switch price stickers and stuff double sided jackets with extra vinyl. I did it because I was robbing candy stores and Toys R Us since the age of 7. So its no biggie to me. I just don't do it anymore because I heard it was a bad thing to do. . . but if no one had told me. . . I would still be racking the racks 8)
