Phra*DOC wrote:true. but besides that, turbo's sampletime's what like 5 secs?
thatd be really too few. I guess trying to cram a beat in the 1200's 10.3 secs can be also a fun part of the game.. but less than it?

I have a non expanded 950 and when i work with it i have to trim carefully, and building a drum track track with bass in it, being minimal and cautious, still eats up 2 if not 3 secs. Thatd leave me 2 secs for other samples on a turbo, hypotetically.. which again, it's too few. turbo's should be used to create the drum track alone and mix it with other sources... its nice challenge trying to use a 1200 as a standalone box but frankly i think that on a turbo this is practically impossibile.

so yea basically **** turbos :D

if you can get 2 turbos for cheaper than a SP1200 then i see no need for hate... dope beats have been made with less. the SP's aren't only samplers, they're also great MIDI sequencers... or also easy to be controlled by MIDI with any MPC. the SP12 Turbo even has features that the SP1200 doesn't... like keeping your samples in memory when shutting the machine off and back on later. it honestly just sounds like you're coming up with reasons to hate [fueled by your frustration of not being able to afford one yet]. both are amazing machines. just keep hunting and you'll find a good deal. someone on this forum recently got a sp12 turbo in great shape for $200... so keep an eye out.

well if I could find one for 200 sure as hell i would buy it. But man im not hating i was joking.. sorry if you perceived and 'angry' tone!:)

using two (or even more) together sounds like a good option.. maybe the only problems would be with the space.. and elecrtic bills :P (is it my guess or those machine consume like A LOT? even just for how heated up they get..)

just for the hell of it, here's a beat i put together 100% within the SP12 Turbo with 5 secs of sampling time... everything was sampled into it and the beat was recorded directly from the SP's outputs... not the best beat i've made or anything, but just to reference something you can put together in 15 mins time with just a SP12 turbo...

Yes the SP12 Turbo has only 5 seconds of sampling time, but you have to balance that against the fact that it also has 24 drum sounds built-in, ready to go off the bat. So you dont *need* to sample drums into it to get something going. Yes they are 12bit drums with the analogue filters. It does things that the SP1200 will never do, you dont need the OS disk, you dont need any floppies, your samples are saved on power down, it looks cooler if that matters.

It is more than just a SP1200 with half the sampling time, but some people just won't get that. You should be able to get 2 or 3 SP12's for the price of a decent SP1200. Without the Turbo expansion, an SP12 should be dirt cheap, but you can forget about any meaningful sampling with 1 second or whatever it has. Think of that as a drum machine rather than a drum sampler, you'll squeeze in 1 or 2 samples of your own to compliment the onboard sounds, if your sample game is tight.

:hmmm: no. i can not agree. i started this thread because I noticed how crazy prices had been for so long. prices were dumb before this trhead. the hi costs begot this thread. besides there is a lot more info in this thread than just costs.

The complete statement re: the title of the thread is "I want an SP 1200 but damn!! They cost too much"

sp12 turbo users: Im reading around on the net that a lot of people clame that its possible to erase the preset sounds thus having the 4 2,5 secs bank all free just like an sp1200!!
is it true?? that would make it A LOT more desirable!

you misread it much like i did at first... you can't use them as free space... you can only replace the stock sounds with other sounds [but they must be the exact same length down to the millisecond and you need to invest in an EPROM burner and plenty of time just to do it]... so no... you can not get more actual sampling time than 5 seconds on the sp12 turbo.

Already discussed in this thread, but also in detail at the SP1200 forums where there is much more information on all things SP.
