There's Direct Window Management in Windows, although it's only for two open ones. But you just "fling" the windows at the left or right borders and they auto size to 50/50 each. Dead simple but so easy.

I bought an app on OS X for $8 to have the same thing on OS X.

But yeah if I had to juggle more than 3 on OS X I could see myself trying to get more used to the Expose style of window management. I just never really need more than 2 and I personally like my OS/software to be so transparent it requires almost zero thought.

I use Ableton so I don't ever really have even more than then one Window like Cubase, and then the other half of the screen for me is probably Reason on the 50/50 split.

I've usually got 4 or more Workspaces open at a time, but it doesn't take any additional though really. It was just a **** moving from the 'tabbed' way of working in Windows to the way Mac handles things.

I'd happily move back to a silent audio PC, but the price difference is negligible between the two if you look at high end custom builds. :fku:

I remember when I bought the mb pro and switched from windows xp sp3 to snow leopard:

First day - " Uh!? What's that crap?!"

After one week - "oh man! Really!? "

After two weeks - " MAN THIS O.S. IS **** BANANAS!!! "

But surely metatron I gotta check windows 7/ 8 cause allot people told me Microsoft improve their shit.

But I want to say I'm not any kind of fan boy, I got that MacBook Pro cause of great discount and in all honestly I had a better experience than windows regarding the os.

If I can't realise the mobile hackintosh I'm going to stick to windows 7/8, no problem at all.

I actually kind of loathe Apple, but like you said no fanboyism here either love or hate.

Rather than build an i7 DAW desktop I got lazy and just spent $1500 more on a dual Xeon Mac Pro. I use Windows more still, but it's just awesome to have both OS's to go back and forth on in less than one minute.

I just see so many guys who couldn't afford a Mac feel like they are underpowered and too many OS X users feel like it's significantly more powerful. I'm really just trying to get it out there that you win either way over the last 10 years and definitely the last 5 after the Vista detour. Vista allocated RAM in the stupidest way possible. They went back to the more efficient XP style memory caching, bit the bullet and made the GUI more like OS X, and Windows has shed all the historically bad aspects at this point.

It does concern me how both OS's are aiming more towards to casual people and oversimplification. The new iTunes is a disaster, and Windows 8 had to re-add the classic Start menu after much backlash.

Shouldn't be hard to cater to both kinds of users provided you have good designers.

But yeah XP compared to earlier OS X revs was a big difference especially presentation wise.

The new iTunes is a version that I actually like!

I don't know what they've done to it exactly, but I'm rediscovering a lot of old tunes I haven't heard for a long time. Having all the artwork displayed by default just suits the way I browse my music, rather than a long list with thousands of tracks.

The oversimplification thing is a different issue. I think people like yourself, Nym and possibly lots of people on here are in the minority on this one. I personally just want things to be fluid, irrespective of whether they are simple or complex.

They both work great but my biggest reason for making the switch was that I had way too many embarrassing problems on stage with multiple PC laptops. I kept getting strange pops, clicks, glitches, etc... I tried multiple laptops and multiple audio interfaces, multiple versions of windows (ended up spending a ton of money trying to fix the problems). I used to hate Apple at the time but I was fed up and wanted to try something else. I bought a Macbook Pro and everything went so well that I switched my main production computer to a Mac. Thats just my experience. While you can make a PC and Windows function just as well I feel like my OS X / Mac experience has been a lot less hassle. I wouldn't be against trying it again some day but I would want to keep my Mac for a while as a backup that I know I can trust it to work.

Ultimately it's just a preference

Which is all that was said. My deleted posts were saying there is no debate.

A certain member here forces others to leave him no openings to troll by having to spell out real world facts to infinity.

There are issues isolated, specific to each operating system. There are confirmed reports that certain software and devices installed on PCs interfere with the installation on PCs that are not a problem on Macs. I can go into detail but on the run. The bottonm line is that I wouldn't steer anyone wrong on this issue. You will have a better overall experience on a Mac. This is the reason why I switched.

Then detail the confirmed reports, specifically. What software? What conflict?

Again I can install the demo on either a PC i7 quad or one of each install on a two partition Mac Pro here, and there will be no functional or performance differences at all. Same as every other piece of modern DAW software. (And I already have done that)

Otherwise it's just your ego feeling special you paid more for a Mac, clearly.

Whether it is your intention to mislead people or not, that is still possibly the net result of groundless posts like this that you make.

YOU WILL HAVE THE SAME EXPERIENCE ON COMPARABLE CPU/RAM CONFIGURATIONS ON EITHER OS. PERIOD.

CPU usage levels = same, RAM usage = same, Amount of hosted plugins usable = same.

Anyone reading this thread, consider who it is that is telling you the false hype info and their well documented history of living in their own fantasy world and as recently as 2 months ago needed multi core CPUs operation explained to him and that took like 5 pages...

He is not even remotely well versed in how computers operate, and is stating a personal OS preference as technical superiority that can not be demonstrated in the real world.

So people would be best served believing what the informed site owner has posted and the guy with the Cisco training, not the guy who wrapped his head around how CPU's even work within the last 8 weeks.

Exactly. And I'm finished explaining how there is no debate performance wise. My posts were all pointing out every angle of why there is no debate, only aesthetic user preference, clearly.

Bottom Line: A person's perception is his/her reality whether true or not.

If you feel your particular OS works for you then you are entitled to have your right to defend it based on your belief and testimony - in the spirit of good debate, of course...

OP - choose your specs and make the choice of either OS. I run both with comparable specs and don't prefer one over the other (with the exception of aesthetics. my friends notice the Mac stuff first...). One cool thing is you can either dual boot windows or run as a virtual machine on a Mac.

The OP asked if there is a difference. And the fact is...there are differences. On the PC side there are reports (look them up yourself) about certain ASIO drivers causing issues. There are no such reports that I am aware of pertaining to Core Audio drivers.

There are PC network devices that interfere with the installation of the MPC software on a PC. Do a forum search for specifics. But I haven't seen any issues in this regard on a Mac.

No you provide the evidence for you flimsy premise/unfounded bias.
