There's Direct Window Management in Windows, although it's only for two open ones. But you just "fling" the windows at the left or right borders and they auto size to 50/50 each. Dead simple but so easy.
I bought an app on OS X for $8 to have the same thing on OS X.
But yeah if I had to juggle more than 3 on OS X I could see myself trying to get more used to the Expose style of window management. I just never really need more than 2 and I personally like my OS/software to be so transparent it requires almost zero thought.
I use Ableton so I don't ever really have even more than then one Window like Cubase, and then the other half of the screen for me is probably Reason on the 50/50 split.
