you misread it much like i did at first... you can't use them as free space... you can only replace the stock sounds with other sounds [but they must be the exact same length down to the millisecond and you need to invest in an EPROM burner and plenty of time just to do it]... so no... you can not get more actual sampling time than 5 seconds on the sp12 turbo.
you can also replace stock sounds in memory with sampled sounds. it still takes up valuable memory, but is saved upon power down for access upon reboot.
all it really means is that the preset bank is usable in assigning your own sounds to, not that you are actually "saving" or "making" any extra RAM...
then you have to reset to defaults to get back your preset sounds. and lose all other memory...
its been a while, but something like that.
