the plugins are in the profile of your daw once you set it in ableton as a surface

which ever plugin is on screen has an instant mapping kinda like and alphabetic/numeral order or something where it makes sense out of your surface the best it can and ive not ever really had a case where the mappings are out of wack but if you want re arrange how you like you just miid learn and go

If you switched to controller mode you would want controlling minimoog v or something so at that point the pads would be sending midi to mini moog v

Jah, I would definitely say you are using the maschine controller mode wrong, let me explain a few things why you are not hearing drums like in your example no5 and why you may want or need to switch to controller mode.

As Metatron72 described, I am using my DAW, lets say LIVE but any other DAW is same, I have maschine plugin loaded and routed to a track. Then lets say i load up another VSTi on another track, I can switch to midi mode and control the VSTi via midi. When i'm finished tweaking, I switch back to maschine mode.

The reason why when you switch to controller mode you dont hear maschine's drums anymore is simple, the pads are no longer transmitting messages to maschine, they are now transmitting midi, and in our case directly to LIVE. Meaning that if there were to be an instrument on a track, we could now play that sound using maschine's pads and we could record midi notes and controller CC's directly into LIVE.

If you wanted to play the sounds from maschine in LIVE then all you would need to do is route a midi track to the input of maschine and you will hear the drum kit. Its really that simple!

Another reason for having a PC editor is for the reason of customisation. 16 Q Links, but are they Absolute or Relative controllers? with an editor just like the MPD/MPK you could decide for yourselves, also not every plugin has a midi learn function so you would not always have the option of placing cutoff on a desired Q Link.

On top of what he said If you just need the maschine kit

the mpc has the sounds spread out across the keyboard in some way but doesn't send the midi to your daw of that pgm inside the mpc software but playing it from the keyboard will

and even though maschine default setting is opposite from the mpc in terms spread out across a keyboard with this setting

and when you do this it spreads it across keyboard but the key part here is it also sends midi to your daw from the pads not just the keyboard and then you could use it as a sound module and sequence it inside your daw which what Ive been wanting to do since I got it at 1.1

this give us much more flexibility

So basically you are implying Maschine's controller mode is flawless and Akai should implement it the same way?

If Maschine's controller mode maps to the Active plugin, why wouldn't it map to Mashine's plugin when it is open on screen...verdus the added steps to make this happen?

Jah

Its not maschines mode

Its midi and the way it can be used is you have a control surface like the mpd, maschine,m audio, mackie controller

they have no owning over it just like they don't own midi and akai is not copying them by doing it the same how ever you put it

they have just done what is logical made the best use out of that mode with their hardware and we are asking akai to do the same as we dont even have access to that mode

so after doing so you would be able to select it as a control surface like the mpd and the long list of controllers

if you have live fire it up and take a look at that list and youll see all the differnt controllers that use that mode

Jah, to answer your question, YES it will map to maschine's plugin when it is focused and is on screen, you will have access to 8 macro's in maschine's case, all controllable via midi. and yes, you've guessed it.. when we switch to midi mode we now have access to these macros, you can assign any parameter from maschine onto these macros. i hope this clears up your errors in understanding this issue.

Right or wrong? You must use MIDI Batch Set-up/Sound to MIDI note and then Controller Mode in order to record Maschine Pads/Sounds into your DAW?

Yeah you can. But again the main use of controller mode for most people is to NOT control the main software. They want to avoid triggering stuff at the same time and avoid having a desk full of controllers when a toggle mode lets one do the job of 2,3,4 controller and so on.

If possible just be straight with everybody, does Akai not want of make a separate editor app/mode switch? That's all NI did, nothing overly complex or hard to code. They just reacted to user want and addressed it in the simplest yet most versatile way possible.

Also pgm to midi like the maschine has would be great as you still have a sequencer in a sequencer and the other day I wanted to record my pgm to abletons track and not the mpc but couldn't perform this using the mpc pads I found I could using a keyboard going thru it and could draw them in piano roll but could not just perform on my pads and have it record straight to ableton

For every post in this thread, I have moved beyond 'Add a Controller Mode to the Ren'. We already agreed for Pete's sake. (big pun intended) I have been talking specific implementation of such a function among other things using the Ren/MPC Software. I don't believe I can say it any clearer.

What I am discussing now is a direct response to what AyePee wrote earlier as shown above. He would like to see a Program to MIDI function like Maschine. I did what he did with the Ren. I inserted it on a DAW instrument track and armed the track to record. But what I played on the Ren's pads were not recorded into the DAW. I think it should but not like Maschine. I would prefer:
1. When using the MPC plugin, I want to be able to record MIDI into a DAW using the Ren's pads. This isn't possible in 1.4 unless you use a MIDI Track. Hardware MPCs can send MIDI regardless of Track Type. Maschine uses the Program to MIDI which I don't find intuitive. I don't find any function that you must access it via a mouse intuitive.

2. I want to be able to use multiple instances of the MPC plugin and sequence entirely within a DAW. As written above, I want to use the Ren's pads to record directly to a DAW instrument track.

Are there any videos available that show Maschine being used a DAW controller but also controlling plugin instruments within that DAW? So can you load 16 instruments within Live and use Maschine controller to control any of the 16 instruments on the fly as well as other params within that DAW?

Hi Jah,

just to be clear.....
If Akai would implement a special controller mode or pgm to midi...it is also important that it should work without opening the MPC plug in the daw....that is the main advantage of the other controllers...for me i like it simple....take my ren to a friends studio connect the Ren and trigger his vstis...I cant take my Maschine controller everywhere switch to midi mode and can trigger all my drums vstis and control filter with the knobs and dont have to install Maschine software....

Best regards

Patrick

I agree only because Maschine has this capability. I am indifferent to whether the Ren/Studio should perform like other MIDI Controllers. I just acknowledge that some users and potential users want this.

Jah

Its just a standard feature of midi you want the best controller to have access to as all others do

a lot of people use this method today

If you have no use for it I can understand that but a lot of people do
