when i go to convert a song to a sequence, the sequence does not reflect

transposition settings for tracks
loop bars setup in the main window

this is a minor pain in the ass as i would like to use both these features

Just curious, what do you mean by "Loop bar setup"?

Cheers...

I think he means that when you select a start or end point in the bar section, that data gets lost in song mode,,,

Looks like you simply have to FIX the tranposition values in MIDI. When you press the WINDOW key with the cursor over the transpose field, you can change the realtime transposition feature into fixed MIDI data. That should fix it.

I don't really understand how you'd like the sequence loops feature supported in Song mode? Sounds like a conflict. You want the Song to play a chain of sequences, and you want a given sequence looped? I guess I don't understand. ;)

yeah I'm taking about the strange loop box to the right of the tempo in the main menu. This gives you the possibilty of for example playing the bar up to a certain point, say up to bar 3, and then making a loop from there, so you can play bars 1 to 3 and then loop 3 and 4 a few times: I find it a handy way to mess with the sequence without having to edit it or make a new one

but I do wonder what the fukk is this loop feature anyway?????? Its really odd and I'm sure nobody uses it ... It is certainly really pointless in its present form as song mode just completely ignores it... I've asked Akai but I don't think they know either!

I can't remember, was it on the earlier MPCs I wonder?

The loop feature in the main page is very important, as it allows you to repeat a sequence. So when you do a live song structure, simply by chaining sequences in realtime, the loop feature does the trick for you.

Also, you should consider that each sequence could actually be a whole song, and by setting the loop range such that the song skips the intro once it starts looping, you get good looping material, until you move on to the next sequence.

Btw, I tested your problem with transpositions the other day. I created a sequence and put it in a song. I applied realtime (not fixed) Seq Transpose and Track Transpose values to the sequence (in two different tests), and both times the transpositions were correctly played in Song mode!

Rob, my complaint is that the transpositions play in song mode but then do not convert from song mode back to sequence mode... this is a bug IMO... or have you found this to work properly?

on the looping thing, I can see why you want the whole bar to loop (I do it all the time gigging) but why Akai designed it to be editable so that the only option is that it plays from the beginning and then loops when it gets to the loop points is beyond me... for example if I just want to loop a couple of bars and NOT have the sequence play from the beginning, well, It won't do it... this seems a bit half-assed to me which is why I question what this feature was ever supposed to be

Ah I see. Haven't tried that yet. The probably cause is that when a song is converted to a sequence, the mpc uses the settings of the first sequence in the song (including the tracks settings), and uses that on all other sequences in the song. So if the first sequence does NOT have transposition settings defined, so will the other sequences. (Guessing here, haven't tried it.)

Anyway, the fix is simple. Go find the sequences that have tranpositions defined (either on the whole sequence, or on a per-track basis), and move to cursor to the correspondng transpose value field(s). Now hit the Window key and FIX the transposition. That is, have the actual MIDI data now reflect the transposition, instead of the default realtime behavior.

on the looping thing, I can see why you want the whole bar to loop (I do it all the time gigging) but why Akai designed it to be editable so that the only option is that it plays from the beginning and then loops when it gets to the loop points is beyond me... for example if I just want to loop a couple of bars and NOT have the sequence play from the beginning, well, It won't do it... this seems a bit half-assed to me which is why I question what this feature was ever supposed to be

So you want to loop part of a sequence? Somewhere in the middle? Well then, make a copy of the sequence and in that copy go to the Bars field. Hit the Window key and DELETE anything you don't need. Done. :)

i use the loop feature alot ... prefer it over song mode and seq converting ... coz with the copy, insert,... bars windows its great ... copy first 4 bars loop after 4 and paste it 3 times than loop from 5 to 8 or 9 to 16 for example and build on right away ... the erase window gives quick access to delete unwanted things in one go ... the time window is almost on every window ... inserting numbers is imo the quickest way to locate the position you wanna go .... workin on 1 seq you don't run in any trouble with converting such as partselection and so on .. but its not that much of a hassle to change thsoe things ... loosing transpose settin sux more ... thats why i prefer workin on 1 seq over more ... imo its quick to work and things get strucutured from the beginning ... for a loop in another measure simul play is nice once its done copy that thing into the right place in the seq .... copy to worx quick too ... pasting multiple copies is quick and great ... often i stucture the entire thing in seq 1, and then copy all of iits parts on sequences 2,3,4,5 ... to use with next sequences ...

it would be nice havin other things we discussed such as individual track lengths, copying segments of a bar for an entire sequence or beter song mode structure options - maybe one day we get an os with those things ... lets hope - ... but imo the 4k allows to work in all sort of ways already now... and fukkin quick once you know where all the things are ... its over a year i got this beauty and the nicest thing is that it is still full of surprises ... yo and every os update is like christmas ... last years christmas os wasnt that funny though!

... inserting numbers is imo the quickest way to locate the position you wanna go .... [/quote]

... thats maybe only on my 4k ... the locate buttons are probably quicker but my locate >> aseems to die away ... anyone else got problems with this button? could it be an os issue? that you have to press longer for example - such as on the tc button? my one doesn't work correct ... all the other locate buttons work smototh ... anyone else got a problem with it and solved it?

Is is also slow when combined with the GOTO button (as the goto-END button)?

especially then - thats basically the main problem ... can't reach the end of the sequence quickly ... it only worx if i keep it prest for a few secs than it starts scrollin step by step over to the end ... never knew that this worx too but in abssence of a functional button at times i been holdin that >> quite for a while ... combined with goto should bring me to the end ... worx on average on every 5th attempt ... hiting it once which should bring me to next bar also worx only every now and then ... every other locate button worx fine ... must be some contact problem i guess ... anyone opened up his 4k to repair somethin like this - easy to solve on my own?
