Akai must now realise that they cannot keep up with NI, not like-for-like. Assuming they actually had a long term plan, they should stick with that rather than suddenly change everything each time someone comes out with something more new and shiny.

I reckon once I've sold my MPC Studio & MPC5000, I should have enough

$999 sounds about right IMO, provided it ships with an interface..although I am disappointed to see it isn't on board....those displays are super sexy.

NI went full gorilla boner on the feature updates...

Definitely. Seems like an even newer price point might help Akai somewhat. But then again I'm no business man so what do I know.

They wont throw in the towel just yet. They may decide to work even faster. Honestly you don't need the screens to be full color like NI's to be able to have complete control over the software from the hardware (Maschine MK1 proved that).

If they can at least get Multicore sorted and really focus on more control of the software from the hardware the Ren could still hold up pretty well seeing that it's still a different workflow.

Native Instruments "Beat These" marketing promo...you gotta wonder if the "Beat These" is directed at Akai.

Those screens are amazing and the way the information is displayed looks sick! This must be where the $1000 value comes in.

USB power is gone on the MK Studio....that's the tradeoff...I will get over it.

Although at this point, and it pains me to say this, I would much rather see a standalone from NI than Akai. The last MPC that Akai got mostly right was the 4000. The 2500/1000 were saved by JJ. And people are, for some crazy reason, still waiting for an update to the botched 5000 years later. Bascially, if you include the 1000/2500/5000/Ren/Studio/Fly/Element, Akai hasn't gotten anything right in over a decade. No shots, just facts.

Maybe we can throw them a bone on the 500. People seem to like that one a lot.
