How do you make stereo feel in the DAW when making beats on old skool MONO samplers?

Wisely panning your DAW's channels and applying stereo imaging on the MASTER bus, via specific plug-ins or with a simple delay.

stereo imaging on the master? i'll try this today! Do you pan drums or only samples/loops?

I like my kick in mono super centered, sometimes use a stereo snare/clap "lock" (rarely) but always dead on 0. Could slightly pan hihats. But most normally my drums will be mono/center. Also my bass doesn't move an inch on the sides. Pan everything else.

I usually don't pan if it isn't really needed but If I want to make a stereo out of a monochannel I would copy the channel(track) in my DAW pan one hard left, the other hard right and then delay one of those (not much just 0,5 - 2 ms). by doin this, one signal reach the ear ealier giving a kind of "room vibe". This can be combined with a small amount of EQ on one of the two channels.

An ambience FX may also help.

haas effect + eq each channel. Beware of phasing, always check your mix in mono mode.
If you later add reverb and delay u will get much better results imho.

Panning brings a mix to life.

Aux sends and panning.

For pads I'll sometimes use a nice, fat analogue stereo chorus for lushness which I may also slightly send into into delays, reverbs, flangers, etc and maybe let one or two of them feed back slightly to get some nice harmonics going on.
Suck and see really... Mess about and play 4 urself.

Can also use gates; left one ducking, right one gating.
Use different compressors on left and right.
Send more high frequencies through the stereo delay and/or spring reverb maybe.

I like to pan my snare slightly to the left and then aux send to a delay which is panned more to the right. Makes your snare trill and snap across the stereo field nicely.
Nice and electro (old electro I mean).

Generally I just mess with the aux sends and panning in the mixer.
I do this on an outboard mixing desk but the same principle can be applied to the DAW mixer.

Watch out that your bass energy isn't skewed to one side though.
