update installed and working :smoker: i already had os 1.2 updated took out the floppy drive left the red and black floppy cable attached to the mpc 2000xl used ide cable already had from p.c all holes no messing making a hole attached that to the cf reader then the opposite end into the mpc 2000xl to the right slot.i didn't have a drill to make holes for the fixing bracket so i super glued it to back of the card reader i will get round to fixing it properly. :o seems to be holding nice for now.i put in the integral 1 gig card then powered up and bingo it said free 944.4m so i didn't even need to format the card i had already had info from my juno g on both cards but to make sure i put some samples outside of the juno g sub folders and the samples were their to.same with the 64 mb sandisk card no need to format that either.big up to all for your posts.i don't have to look at them red floppy's no more.
you have saved me endless hours of fannying around with disk swaps.
so thank you so much and much appreciated.im going bed coz i stayed up so i didn't miss the delivery but tomorrow them pads are getting beat up

Thanks a lot for sharing the infos!

I will go on with the addonics one.

But before buying one, I'm just wondering... how will I move my beats from my floppies to my cf card?!
I don't feel like putting my floppies in my PC and making a copy on a cf will do the trick...huh?

edit: And if I manage to copy all my floppies to the CF, could there be any issue due to beats made with os 1.14 and loading them with os 1.2?

thanks!

hello there invhide.

that's exactly what i was doing last night moving all my old floppy waves into my p.c onto the cf card which i have a multi u.s.b card reader and i used a u.s.b external floppy drive plugged into my p.c popped in floppy's dragged the files directly of the floppy's onto the 1 g.b integral cf card,i will be honest though the integral cf card i'm using may be a problem because i am having write error messages when saving to cf card on m.p.c 2000 x.l if i press the sample to save, it saves, other times it doesn't i have to retry the save of the sample that said write error i managed to save a project with all files including wav/snd into one folder.i would suggest that sticking with what the other members are saying about sandisk cf cards.i think the integral cf card i was using is not partitioned for use with the cf reader due to it not being fixed maybe?.i may be talking you know what?i have a sandisk 64mb card which i'm going to try and save a project on the m.p.c 2000 x.l later on today so if it saves without the write error messages at least i know for sure that the integral cf card is not working to well,or it could be bent pins in the c.f reader from what lampdog was saying.good luck and give it plenty of thought before you decide which card to go for.i was on a tight budget so i had to for now go for the addonics cf reader.if my pocket got any tighter i would have lost circulation in both legs. all the best.

haha, got tight pockets as well :-D

Thanks for your reply, I actually just want to be sure I can move a whole beat with all required files, and make it play just as it was on my floppies, with all the sequences, song, programs etc.. Please let me know if you can achieve that with the sandisk. I got a 1gb and a 512Mb, I guess they should work just fine.

peace

o.k i just tried to save a quick project onto sandisk 64mb cf card, i used drum break one in pad a1 and drum break 2 in pad a2.
record a 2 bar step for each one in seperate tracks.tracks 1 and 2.
went to save screen opened up root folder created new folder named it.then opened it.then saved All sequences and songs, then save All programs and sounds.
no problems at all it worked like a dweem. loaded up again light greased lightning :smoker: .so the integral cf card is a no no.i hope this helps as the idea is to get making music and having fun.

And if I manage to copy all my floppies to the CF, could there be any issue due to beats made with os 1.14 and loading them with os 1.2?

im not sure i am quite new to the mpc 2000xl so am just going through steps to get going as it is my first mpc.and im glad i have one it's just the way my mind works.pc's no more for me,well for making music anyway.and thats a good thing for me imho.
good luck and peace.unless your bangin on't drums.

edit to add:i have had success with a 16 gig transcend cf card, although the m.p.c 2000 x.l only see's just over 1 gig of space.no read or write problems loading saving, etc.so a thumbs up for the transcend cf card from me.

ok, thanks for the info. I was actually asking if you managed to copy a beat you had on floppies and make it play on CF. But that's fine, I'm gonna try this when I'll get the card reader, I just ordered it :-D

i see what you mean, well the m.p.c 2000 x.l reads midi file data and wav and snd data, so as long as you create a new folder, or transfer a folder which contains midi file and wav and snd files onto the cf card, they should load up in the m.p.c 2000 x.l.16 bit wav files yeah.not 24.bit.nice.
you will have to load up both midi file and the wav or snd files into the m.p.c 2000 x.l.
when you get the sandisk card and you have installed the cf reader into the m.p.c 2000 x.l, you will have to format the sandisk card in the m.p.c 2000 xl.
happy days.

You will most probably need to convert the Zip power connector to a floppy power power connector.

If the MPC originally came with a floppy drive, it might already have the correct power cable/connector, and a convertor to the Zip power connector which could be removed. Or, it might have a power cable specifically for the Zip, in which case you will need to replace it or convert it to a floppy power connector.

You will have to see if the existing IDE cable is long enough to reach to the card reader (assuming the internal Zip drive is IDE, and not SCSI).

You really have to open the MPC to know what is in there at the moment.

You need to upgrade your OS to 1.20 before you install it.

ok so I opened up, but I have no clue what I'm looking for and I don't know how to post a pic here. Also, how would I update my mpc? I would need a zip disk with it?

The IDE cable into the Zip drive looks like it has plenty of length, so that should be fine.

The power cable into the Zip drive, the white plug in the back of the Zip drive (top centre of your photo), will need an adapter, to convert the larger hard drive type power connector to a smaller floppy drive type power connector, like this...

I can not see the whole of the power cable in your photo, so trace the power cable back from the Zip drive to the MPC mainboard, and make sure there isn't already an adapter on the cable.

im not sure if there is one. I traced it back to the mainboard and I think there is something like what you are describing, it has two holes empty and two with the black and red wire.

No, that sounds like the connection where the cable is attached to the MPC mainboard, which can be seen in the photo you posted above.

If that is at the other end of the power cable to the Zip drive, then that is a Zip/hard drive power cable, and you need an adapter to change it to a floppy drive power connector, as is shown in the photo I posted above.
