Yes, two different problems, wanted you to sort out audio input to the Fantom first, as the MIDI part is a little more involved.
Forget MTC, MMC, and Master/Slave, at the moment, they are used to synchronise the sequencers of two devices, which is not really what you want, at the moment, I think.
You connect the MIDI out of the Fantom to the MIDI in of the MPC, and a MIDI out of the MPC to the MIDI in of the Fantom.
You turn Local MIDI to Off on the Fantom...
- press MENU, select System, press ENTER
- press Function Button 3 to select System Setup
- change the Local Switch to OFF
- press 8 System Write to save the settings to internal memory
Local Switch
The Local Switch determines whether the internal sound generator is disconnected (OFF) from the controller section (keyboard, Pad, pitch bend/modulation lever, knobs, buttons, D Beam controller, pedal, and so on); or not disconnected (ON).
Normally this is left “ON,” but if you wish to use the Fantom-S’s keyboard and controllers to control only external sound modules, set it to “OFF.”
Value: OFF, ON
This disconnects the internal MIDI connection between the keyboard and sound engine inside the Fantom.
Now when you play the Fantom keyboard, it sends MIDI note on/off data to the Fantom MIDI output only, instead of sending the MIDI internally within the Fantom and playing Fantom sounds, and the internal Fantom sound engine will only respond to MIDI data coming into the Fantom MIDI in port, instead of from the Fantom keyboard.
So, the Fantom is now both an external MIDI keyboard for the MPC, and an external MIDI sound module for the MPC.
You then setup the Fantom in Performance Mode, with a different Patch (sound) on each of the 16 Performance parts, and with each of the 16 Performance parts assigned to a different MIDI channel (from 1-16).
Then, when you want to play a Fantom sound from the MPC, you set the active track in the MPC to MIDI, and to the MIDI out port that the Fantom is connected to, and to the particular MIDI channel that matches the Fantom Performance part/channel of the particular Fantom sound that you want to play from that MPC track.
Then, both the MPC pads and the Fantom keyboard should be playing the particular Fantom sound on that MIDI channel/part of the Fantom Performance.
