There's nothing complex about picking better sounds or resampling in the 4K.

For me it is.
Layering doesn't mean I pick bad sounds, I just try to sumarize several good aspects of different sounds into one.
The whole resampling thing is too time consuming for me as there's not only the kick to be layered and not even only drums.

Making music is time consuming.

What Coz told you, you don't HAVE to do ya know.
It's different avenues of ideas being offered to you.
Too complex and time consuming, pfftt. My foot.

Can't do something with a Multi?

Two parts of a Multi, set to different programs, set to the same MIDI channel?

Setup your different sounds on the same pad/key of the different programs?

And/or use the two separate MIDI outputs of a track to trigger two different programs/sounds somehow?

I don't have one to try anything with, just wondering.

Coz is right. Edit 1 is the main envelope. Zone 2, 3, and 4 are only adjustments to that one envelope not new separate envelopes, tuning, start, or filters.

Zone Page is offsets to a parameter. If you set the filter in edit page to low pass. Then you can only offset to adjust the setting of low pass filter for that sample in that zone.

Now you can if you want to use the Multi to layer programs so you can you different envelopes per note or pad as you want to call it. Set up the main page to INT A: and assign the programs to the same part number and you are good to go.

Yes but it goes up to 5000 samples I believe which does little on long samples but can shave a bit on short percussive samples. Also may sure the one shot mode is on and the envelope attack is at zero.

So this offset works independendly whether there is a second sample in the zone or not? This would be awesome and actually solve my original matter

There's a few caveats to consider when layering up Programs through MIDI, which is why I never mentioned it in the first place.

Firstly, there's more menu diving involved, which equates to more time to achieve a simple task. You're now editing two Programs rather than one. It's less fluid.

Secondly, your pad assignments have to match up exactly or it won't work and you'll get weird anomalies. For example, I used to use the default pad layout for building kits and somewhere along the line I switched to a Chromatic layout. Those kits won't layer up without a whole world of pissing around reassigning sounds. Not good.

Thirdly, resampling is a good habit to get into. Not only does it free up polyphony, but it can also make the sound more uniform when played at different velocities. If/when you back your project up to a computer, you've got your composite sounds ready to drop into other projects without having to load the 4K project up.

Finally (as previously mentioned), don't discount Trim or the 4K sequencer as a way of shaping your drums. They offer the finest control over your sound and timing.

How about the modulation matrix? It can modulate certain zones.

Oh, and TF stands for triple filter in the modulation matrix.

I'm quite desperate in finding this out. The MPC is still very new to me and recently I started layering drums and other sounds. I didn't find out how to have different envelopes and filtersettings per zone. Is this even possible? I didn't find that in the manual and when I chance a parameter it always changes it for the whole pad/key...

cheers!

It can be done a variety of ways.

Jump to post #37. Actually re-reading that thread gave me a great understanding of what the Mod Matrix terminology does.

Ian Canefire , thank you also for your videos, I have your Mod matrix videos.

Hey guys,

4k newb here, I'm a bit disappointed that individual zones in a drum program can't have their own envelopes etc. There's a work around that I've just found, it's probably been talked about before so forgive me if I'm preaching to the converted.

Just use keygroups, each keygroup can have it's own envelopes filter etc. Limit the keygroup range to a single pad and stack your keygroups in the KG mix page as if they were zones. Does this make sense or am I missing something here? It seems to work for me, don't know why they didn't implement the same thing for drum programs..

Yes it has been talked about before. And yes it works.
