Are either one of you two using Mavericks?

Yes! There are some issues on Mavericks, but it's not USB 3.0 related. Just needs a new driver for Mavericks compatibility. It works fairly decent, but there are some issues. I wouldn't update to Mavericks yet if you don't have too. MPC aside, Mavericks destroyed the battery life on my MacBook Pro. I went from getting 7-8 hours of battery to 1.5-2 hours. It's disgusting!

It's been two months and still no word from these guys. Many many user posts on their forum needs to be read before spending your slave money on one of these newer units. I like my ren when I don't have to do "work arounds".

OP what's with the unoriginal name? I never understood why people name themselves after another artist. My first thought when seeing this happen. Is if you can't think of a distinctive name to define your self, I don't see you creating a sound that will distinguish you from the other 16th note repeater robots.

Many companies were slow with Mavericks support, even Avid with Pro Tools. They just got support for PT11 about 3 weeks ago. And they still don't have support for Pro Tools 10, which is advertised to run side by side with 11. Soundflower also works weird for me on Mavericks! Mavericks itself doesn't even have full Mavericks support!

Mavericks is making some apps go nuts. :WTF: . I haven't have troubles with MPC soft but yes with other apps. Now that I'm finished testing the betas I was testing I'm going back to ML. :Sigh: apple!

I can't see any mention of Mavericks incompatibility on the Akai website.

That's because it's not incompatible. There are just known issues. It's two different things. You are confusing "compatibility" with "support". Just because there are known issues doesn't mean Akai won't support it. Avid did not support Mavericks, but that did not mean it was incompatible. People still used it, with issues, and Avid did not support it. And Avid mentioned that they did not support it. Akai on the other hand, may still support it! Native Instruments also still does not mention Mavericks support for any of their products, although Komplete seems to work fine for me!

 I am not confusing anything.

If it has issues, then it is not compatible.

Akai has provided zero information to customers about the Mavericks situation.

1. This is just simply not true. Any software user knows this. If you look at the changelog to almost any software update, the known issues are listed.

2. Again, neither has companies like Native-Instruments and some others. As any software user should know, if nothing is mentioned about new OS compatibility, then stay your ass put at your currently supported OS!

So where are the known issues with Mavericks listed? :Sigh:

You used the comparison to Pro Tools, Avid release information as soon as a new computer OS is released in regards to support/compatibility.

What exactly is the 'issue' with the Renaissance and Mavericks? Is it that the audio interface does not work at all, or something like that?

And even with that issue, you still think that it is compatible with Mavericks, and that Akai have no reason to let customers and potential customers know about it?

Someone buying a new Renaissnce, expecting it to work with the latest Mac OS X, is going to be disappointed if it doesn't, Akai should have a warning about this situation on their website, NFI why you think you have to defend the fact that they don't.

And you are confusing customer support from a company, with a particular software title/version supporting operation within a particular operating system version, or with other software.

Within the IT industry, support does not exclusively mean, or relate to, customer/technical support, it can also relate to whether software/hardware will operate correctly in a given computer OS/software configuration....

support

verb

verb: support; 3rd person present: supports; past tense: supported; past participle: supported; gerund or present participle: supporting

6. (of a computer or operating system) allow the use or operation of (a program, language, or device).

"the new versions do not support the graphical user interface standard"

For the Studio the site only list OSX 10.7 and 10.8 (Mountain Lion) No Mavs.... Let the buyer beware. Anytime you buy software with the OS you are going to use not listed, you are taking a huge risk.

BTW Windows 8.1 is not listed as well, which is what I have on my Surface Pro 2. And sure enough, I have some "issues". But I took the risk, and I accept the consequences.

I realize Akai could do more in the customer service department, but I do not see this issue as 100% on them. The buyer needs to read before they buy. Personally I think Akai is a company of idiots, who happen to make a product I enjoy. So I buy and enjoy the product. :)

Today I got an email from NI, with my code for this years Christmas gift from them.... great company... wish I liked Maschine more than I do.....

Not putting up a warning about it on their website, is 100% on them.

A new user, buying a new Mac with Mavericks pre-installed, is most likely not going to go out of their way to check if the version of MPC Software available is compatible with the new Mac they just bought.

They are going to buy a new Renaissance, a new Mac, and expect them to work.

They are going to get it home, run into issues getting the firmware up to date, then run into issues getting it to work as a sound device for Mavericks, then the expansion packs will not load because they have not been updated to 64 bit and there is no warning in the software telling they should update it, and then...and then...and then...

An existing user should check for compatibility/support of a new operating system, with their existing software, before upgrading their existing OS.

But even if they do go looking for information on the Akai website, there isn't any. :Sigh:

I like how you always try twist everything into someone "defending" Akai for something when a person is just stating the facts.

1. There has been no MPC update since Mavericks released, which is where MPC changelogs are posted.

2. Avid's main reason for releasing that information was simply to tell you that Mavericks is not supported. Akai may very well still provide support for users on Mavericks, which is why they likely did not release any statements saying they will not support Mavericks users, the same as NI has not released anything mentioning Mavericks support.

You have to also remember that Avid is a much bigger company and many studios rely on Pro Tools and Media Composer to operate. I don't think there is a studio in the world that relies on an MPC to run. So one kind of expects Avid to be very prompt with information and support. My point was that it took Avid quite a bit of time to provide support quickly for Mavericks as opposed to other major software makers. It's not uncommon!

3. Taken right from an Akai rep on their forum:
The Renaissance driver and MPC Software has not been cleared/updated for official OS X 10.9 support. We recommend using OS X 10.6-10.8. The software will grab any driver update download upon launching the software with the internet on.

You most likely not be able to use the audio card with your Mac's global sound settings - 'Audio MIDI Setup' when using OS X 10.9.

Yes, we are working on updates for Mavericks.

http://community.akaipro.com/akai_profe ... und_output

4. Again, their latest software release was before Mavericks released. I don't think they are obligated to mention anything about Mavericks until their next release. Any competent software user knows that if a new OS isn't mentioned in the specs then it is definitely being tested. Any "potential customer" that's actually checking for specs should know that if OSX 10.9 is not listed, then there is no official support. To me, that is no different than plainly stating that there is no support. If I'm shopping for software and I don't see my OS listed, I'm not buying it. And like-wise, if a new OS is not listed, I'm not updating to it! Maybe that's just me though!

5. I'm not "defending" anything. I'm simply stating that it is not uncommon for companies to be slow with supporting a new OS or mentioning support for it, as NI also still has yet to make mention of. Interesting how you only see this as me defending Akai, and not also defending NI! Apple still hasn't even mentioned the WELL KNOWN battery drain issue that 10.9 has brought to MacBooks. But that's typical you; always looking for the debate where this isn't one and always looking to be victimized!

So no information available to Akai users about issues with the latest Apple OS, even though Akai know about the issues, even though their support staff have been dealing with irate MPC Software/Mavericks users, even though there is a knowledge base on the Akai website, no mention of the issues at all.

DJ Hellfire wrote:2. Avid's main reason for releasing that information was simply to tell you that Mavericks is not supported. Again, you think that the term 'support' means customer support.

The software does not support correct operation with the OS, the software does not support it, nothing to do with Akai providing customer support.

I don't think an MPC user really cares whether a studio relies on an MPC to run, or not, all they would care is if their own system relies on an MPC to run and it doesn't.

Some owners expect Akai to be very prompt with information, how long has Mavericks been out, how long have Akai known about the problem, when should they be expected to put up information about it?

I do not see how the smaller size of Akai is preventing them from putting this information on their website.

DJ Hellfire wrote:My point was that it took Avid quite a bit of time to provide support quickly as opposed to other major software makers.

They provided information as soon as Mavericks was released.

My point is nothing to do with MPC Software not supporting correct operation in Mavericks, with the Renaissance controller, it is all about Akai not providing this information to their customers on their website.

Of course they should mention it, they are selling a new product, they know the product will be used with new Macs that have Mavericks installed, how **** hard is it to put a knowledge base article, or other warning, up on their website?

Any competent human being knows this pretty poor treatment of their users.

You are defending Akai in not putting any information about Mavericks support/compatibility on their website, you are saying that it is acceptable, you are using comparisons to other software companies and products...that is not defending anything? :hmmm:

This isn't about what NI do, it makes no difference, just because NI don't put up information about Mavericks, that does not excuse Akai from not doing so, NI is not the industry standard of customer service that every other company has to match.

To argue that Akai should not have to put up information about Mavericks not working properly with their software, is **** bizarre.

DJ Hellfire wrote:But that's typical you; also looking for the debate where this isn't one!

There obviously is a debate, otherwise you wouldn't be debating.

Again, you are confusing compatibility with support. Not Supported means if you use an untested product and call customer service bitching because your dumb ass upgraded without official support being there, then the customer service will not support you. That is support. Compatibility just means the software does not work. A piece of software or hardware may be 100% fully compatible with an OS but if a company has not tested it, they will not support it!

I'm not saying anything is "acceptable"! I merely saying it is not uncommon! You're going all crazy with your victimizing shit again. You buy a new car, something **** breaks the next month. It's **** common. Doesn't mean it's acceptable, but it also doesn't mean you go doing back flips in the dealership showroom either. Many audio companies that do mention anything about Mavericks do not even have this information in the forefront. Take Universal Audio or some of Steinberg's products for example, you have to actually go searching for that shit (literally using the search box). Any audio person smart enough to go searching for this information is smart enough to know not to upgrade if they do not see this information.

You need to calm down with your picking every single little thing apart that someone says and your need to want to blame some company for all of someone else's problems. Most of this shit is software 101 anyway. Don't update to new OS/software until the company says it's OK. Akai or NI has not mentioned compatibility. So do not **** upgrade! It's as simple as that. Take responsibility yourself. No one needs to be spoon fed this information. People don't wanna be treated like idiots, but then wanna act like **** idiots when it comes to upgrading software like they don't know they shouldn't upgrade some shit! GTFOH!
