Yes it is, I contacted Akai Support when I sold my Ren and my Studio and did it quickly without any hassle. They even stated that the installs were reset to the full 4 it came with brand new.

That doesn't remove anything from your own computer though, does it?

If you buy one second hand, that hasn't been unregistered by the original owner, you just ask Akai to reset the authorisations, and you are back at 4.

WKempton wrote:Maybe he still wants to be able to use the fully functional software?

Yes, but what is stopping him from using it, if he unregistered it with Akai?

I think that just removes the original registered owner's name/details from being associated with that particular unit, in Akai's system, and resets the number of install authorisations to 4.

I don't think it does anything to stop the software, that the then unregistered original owner still has on their computer, from operating.

M.s wrote:Am I the only one that did the total opposite? I had the maschine studio and traded it for the ren. Maschine's workflow is just not for me. I know akai has to get their software right, but just think of the potential the ren has with its Robust hardware.. All those qlinks may lead to more total control. And I have no issue with the audio interface. I think ren users need to be a bit more patient I'm going to remain optimistic and stick with it. Selling or trading the ren is a huge mistake.

How much longer should users wait?

To be able to sample but not chop/ slice is a bonehead move but I don't mind chopping on the Ren or Maschine, as I'm gonna play the slices from their larger pads anyway. What killed the FA for me is no SPDIF. Oh well, Kronos-X it is. Thanks for the honest review and feedback fam. Be good.

InspectahEX wrote:if your software is unregisted the mpc software wont work obviously or u might have audio dropout its like the demo id b able to use it but not really

That is not obvious, to me.

How do Akai connect to your computer and stop it working?

I think they just remove your details on their system, and that isn't going to stop what you already have installed from working.

The software might be coded in a way that periodically "calls home" or checks for an internet connection perhaps? :hmmm:

Anyways, as long as I know my software is still registered to me and can receive updates because I entered the serial code that came with my hardware and my personal info. If someone buys my used Ren at GC they might be able to install the software off the disc maybe but in order use it, they will have to contact Akai and register as a new user. because the serial that came with the disc is still owned by me and in use under my name. I'm kind of confused on what we're talking about here but this is what I figured was obvious.

So I basically sold just the hardware, kept the software. And Simon why would I be mad with the Maschine Studio? I had the mk1/1.8 and 2.0 and I never had problems, as far as I can see the maschine studio is better in every way than the mk1 and the mk1 was dope. I am more than satisfied. I had the mk1 for like 3 years. The maschine studio really takes it to a another level as far as the controller. The buttons are clicky now feel great, pad colors are useful, 2 big lcd screen, pads were re-done and honestly feel better than the Ren or Studio, everything is going good so I'm happy, and I also hope everyone who sticks with the Ren right now is happy too and best of luck to you. Ren wasn't for me, might be different for some of u. Even though I think akai has a better sequencer/arranger the maschine is just as easy if you know how to use it, which seems they made it even easier sequencing in 2.0 with patterns/scenes. Either way no complaints here with 2.0 or the mstudio yet, and at the same time I look forward to Akai's updates and eventually getting an mpc studio, I will still lbe in the forums talking mpcs with you guys so dont worry. I'm sure ill be just as active here but just won't be complaining :-D or commenting on anything Renaissance related, just really will be in here checking out discussions on the software.

Yeah they have a real nice sampling section, ...just no chopping. I think they assume people will chop in their DAW and just import slices to pads but thats just crazy not to be able to do on a such a keyboard. I loved the feel of the pads , they were very sensitive, a little small like the push pads or something like that but they felt great. Sound quality is bananas, with all the sounds they have in that thing, but I think sounds from roland, korg, yamaha all sound amazing

Ren has vacated unfortunately, but Iim chilling, I think Im good now, might even try to control the mpc software with the maschine one day, could easily fit an mpc studio right right next to the maschine.

unfortunately this had to go too....if they add chopping in the sampler section I'll def go back for this

You can download updates from their website, anyone can do that, the MPC doesn't have to be registered to you.

You will probably find that you will not be able to install and run the updates, without connecting an MPC controller to your computer when it asks you to.

No, they only have to contact Akai if that MPC has been used with 4 software installations previously.

If it hasn't been used with 4 software installations, it will authorise the installation automatically over the internet, and subtract 1 from the installation count.

Once the installation count reaches 4, they just need to contact Akai and ask them to reset the count.

I think you are confused, about the installation authorisation process, and how that is not really related to registering it.

InspectahEX wrote:So I basically sold just the hardware, kept the software.

Will be interesting to know if you are able to update the software to 1.7, without having an MPC attached.

Who knows, you were hyped with the FA06 one day, then bitching about it and returning it the next.

Did you write a letter to Roland?

I expect you will be writing letters to NI before too long.
