Card Reader Issues - "No Floppy Device!"

I think to support IDE ones it is, but not atapi ones. Some card readers (like the hot swappable ones) don't seem to require it.

1.20 is actually a step back regarding disk functionalities compared to the 1.14 version.

^ yeah true... man, too bad JD wasn't still in business.... he had a pretty damn affordable reader that made use of 16+ gig cards..

Only that it forces formatting on the IDE/ATAPI port to a single 1GB partition PC compatible format.

But not much that you can do if your card reader needs 1.20 to operate.

I had this same exact problem when I was trying to upgrade mine from an old floppy to an internal zip drive. Mine however would go to that screen at random after the the mpc was already booted up. I am not exactly 100% sure what the malfunction was however it seemed to go away completely once I removed the IDE cable as well the zip drive from the board.

My estimation was that it was a few things; the power source to operate the new drive as it needed a conversion cable to operate a different type of connector that a zip drive uses, or the terminator positions on the zip drive were incorrect.

I would try to do a few things like remove the RAM, remove even the cables for both the floppy and IDE from the board before booting it up. If it boots up fine then turn off, plug one thing back in at a time to see what your plugging into the board is causing that error screen. If you happen to have an external zip drive you might try loading the OS from that disk if everything is disconnected before installing the new CF card reader.

Worst case you could possibly try to leave the floppy in the mpc with a BIN file with any OS just to get it back into a functioning state and try what Bravo wrote below. I stumbled upon this when I was trying to reset the mpc when I was getting a boot up error (Insert Disk).


Bravo wrote - Before u turn it on, hold down REC & OVER DUB then turn it on (All at the same time). The MPC should boot off the disk perfect (If the OS is fine and the disk is fine)

Then go into the load screen and load that OS. It will now rewite it the the installed flash and prompt u to press any key to restart when complete. On doing that, the MPC should boot up as normal.

I found it didn't like 80 wire/40 pin IDE cables, I had to use 40 wire/40 pin IDE cables.
