Active monitors, meaning the speakers/monitors that have an
amp inside, yes.
Chopping is perfectly fine, a graphic wave editor is not neeeded anyway, it's a
luxury but not necessary.

ha, thats what i love about the mpc500 - the portability. Of course not!

No scaredy business here either.
Best way to chop is using extract feature or copy and paste. I copy because its much faster which is copying a sample to a few pads and then adjust the points. Kinda like a poor man's NDC feature. But rename each copy or you'll adjust the points for all the pads containing the sample.
