Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

Hi, could you tell me if this mains plug would be able to power my mpc500? My old one is broken... Also how can i tell if it is the plug that is broken and not the mpc?
Thanks?

Which mains plug do you want us to tell you about? You have to tell us what you want us to discuss.

The MPC500 uses an AC-DC adapter, not really a mains plug, but I suppose it is a plug, and plugs into the mains.

MPC500 Operator's Manual, page 107 wrote:Specifications
General

Display: 2 x 16 character LCD w/back light
Memory card slot: Compact Flash (The size of the compact flash card that MPC500
can handle is from 32MB to 2GB)
Dimensions: 266mm x 175mm x 44mm
Weight: 1.34 kg
Power requirement: 12v DC 600mA (negative tip)
Battery life: Approximately 4.5 hours of continuous use with LCD backlight ON.

Probably a little hard to test it without a multimeter/volts meter to check if it is outputting the correct voltage.

Make sure any power supply matches the specs above, 12V DC, 600mA or more (if more then use a regulated power adapter, not unregulated), and has to be negative tip.

Yeah i mean the ac-dc adapter (DC in), do you think the one i linked would work?

No, if you look at the closeup photo of the label on the adapter, there is a diagram showing that it is positive tip, which is incorrect for the MPC500, it has to be negative tip. It should look like the diagram on the right...

Image

...some adapters have removable tips, which you can swap around to give either positive tip or negative tip, but that one looks like it is fixed as positive tip.

It also outputs a current of 2A (2 amps, or 2000mA), when it should be 0.6A (0.6 amps, or 600mA). That would be OK if the power supply is regulated, not OK if the power supply is unregulated, and I am not sure if the description mentions whether it is regulated or unregulated, as I can't read it.

Hi, i think i found one that will work, I'm not sure if it is negative tip though

Please look at the link below

No, that is positive tip, if you look at the closeup of the box, it shows the positive tip diagram on the side.

You could cut the cable from the power supply to the tip, reverse it, and solder it back together, which would make it negative tip.

You might also want to consider the size of the DC plug that connects into the MPC, not sure what the exact dimensions of the plug are supposed to be for the MPC500.
