I'll be honest. The new notes and scales is cool. Also the new options in the program edit mode is cool too. I must say that the main thing made the MPC stand out amongst the crowd is the speed of making a beat, which I feel has ben ruined. Shouldn't have messed with the sample engine. Giving us all these options has slowed down the process. Non-destructive chop is a cool idea, I wish you would have kept all the options the same and just made the F1 button a means to toggle between destructive and non-destructive chop. I hate having to look for the shift button so the covert option comes up so I can destructively chop my samples. First of all, chopping drums should always be destructive. That way if you make a beat and decide you want to try a different snare drum, you can browse your folders or pad assign a different snare drum. With non-destructive chopping, pad assign is useless, because everything in non-destructive chopping is assigned the same name. If you decide that you want to go back to the original snare, you can't do it, because it will select the entire sample instead of your chop. Mismatching sounds between different programs is not an option if it is all non-destructive. If you want non-destructive chopping, que slicing, program preview, and all that stuff, then you should have had the chop button(F1) toggle between old mode and new mode. I shouldn't have to hit shift for anything that we were able to do in the past. Slows down beat making.
Bugs or so-called bugs:
- I hate the fact that whenever you load a new project, the link slices option always resets to "on". I previous versions, if you set it to "on" or "off", it will carry over to newly loaded project.
- In program edit mode, after editing a feature on a pad, if you select a new pad and then start editing the same feature you were editing with a previous pad, it will jump to the setting of the previous pad no matter what. For example, I hit pad A1, then edit the release value of 127 to a new value of 57. Then I hit pad A2, and I want to change the original release value 127 to maybe 88. Once I touch the knob, it will jump to a value of 57.
- When I create and name a new program, there have been times where I chop up a sample, select the function to assign the sample or samples, and the program that created does not show up as an option on the hardware, yet it is an option on the software when I hit the dropdown menu.
- One of my pad's volume was set really low when you look at the piano roll editor in main mode and of course the volume is low. When you look at the sample volume in program edit mode, it's set at 127, which is fine. You hit play and of course the pad will play at a low volume, but when I hit the pad, it plays at max volume. Weird stuff.
