Thnx for explaining Rohan. But could you tell me how I can take it out of record mode without stopping the sequence?
If I for instance press overdub (rec) and start I'll start recording. Then I press overdub and the sequence goes on. If I now choose a next sequence I get the help screen.

For OVERDUB or RECORD.

The MPC3000 must be in Record Ready mode. (The top line of the MAIN screen must display the words "Play/Record (Record ready)" )

If not, then press and release the RECORD or OVERDUB key once with the sequencer in a stopped state.

For OVERDUB mode.

While the sequence is playing, simultaneously press the OVERDUB and PLAY keys. Overdub mode is now active, indicated by the light above the OVERDUB key.

For RECORD mode.

While the sequence is playing, simultaneously press the RECORD and PLAY keys. Record mode is now active, as indicated by the light above the RECORD key.

To punch-out of OVERDUB or RECORD mode with the sequence running, hold down the PLAY key and press once either the OVERDUB or RECORD key depending on which of these modes your were in. ( PLAY key depression in this instance not normally required ... )

Is this what you mean ?

Regardless I am looking at the section of code that is responsible for the "help message" we are talking about.

If you can drop in and out of record mode with the sequence running then also ... you should be able to switch sequence regardless of which state the sequence was opened in ...

More soon.

Gave this a good looking into last night.

Now I get what you mean ...

Confirmed that the reason behind this "HELP SCREEN" behaviour when trying to change patterns while the sequencer was running in "RECORD" or "OVERDUB" mode was a decision made a long time ago.

Has a lot to do with operational comparisons with certain tape based systems and code optimised for play only modes -v- code optimised for simultaneous play and record or overdub modes.

Note that the MPC60 fitted with OS 3.10 behaves in a similar way.

Note also that an MPC2000XL appears to block any SEQUENCE change requests when the sequencer is running in "RECORD" or "OVERDUB:" mode. ( at least in OS 1.20 this seemed to be the case ).

Now to go and see how hard this behaviour is to modify.

Then would it be possible to block the sequence change on future os? Id much rather have that than the error screen.

There are two versions of this ERROR/HELP SCREEN.

One when trying to change sequences when in RECORD/OVERDUB/RECORD READY mode.

Another when trying to enable RECORD/OVERDUB/RECORD READY when the sequencer is in PLAY ONLY mode.

The ability to change sequences when in RECORD/OVERDUB/RECORD READY mode could be compared with the process of changing reels on a tape machine enabled in record mode ...... without the user/operator being aware and without having to stop the transport.

A block of the "message and hault/state change announced" is the easiest to make happen. ( and would fairly much eliminate the F_A_R_K kind of user response )

Investigations in progress.

I always get that help message when trying to change to another sequencer after recording/overdubbing another (MPC60 3.10). I so used to it now, just stop the sequence you're in and switch to another sequence and back to your original sequence, then you'll be able to switch sequences to your heart's content - thats what gets it out of record/overdub for me. It can be an inconvenience, but its a minor one.

Apologies for resurrecting such an old thread, but I didn't find any other threads on the matter. Was this ever addressed in any of the Vailixi updates? I'm running 3.50 and running into the same issues.... It's a minor thing, but annoying all the same.

Does anyone know how to punch out of "Record Ready" mode with the sequencer running? Or this not possible?

There's nothing to address. This can not be changed. I remember asking Rohan about this as I too found it a little annoying.

Not sure I understand but if you are in record mode and the sequencer is running then pressing the overdub/record button should put the machine back into playback mode without the need to stop it.

Well, what I meant was recording a sequence, pressing "record/overdub" to stop recording but keep the sequence playing, and then switching to the next sequence without stopping the sequence....It's a little difficult to put into words but I think your response:

answered my query. Thanks for the help.

Ah yes, I know what you mean now. Wish this could be done but you need to exit record mode to get back into0 playback mode, as you know. It's a real shame as it would give the MPC 3000 a lot more "playability".
