How many wav files in folder can read MPC from card reader ?

I have notice that if i have some folder with many samples like snares 500,600 in one folder on my CF card when i open that folder the mpc shows me error message.So my question is how many samples can be in one folder ?

I don't place them on root they are all in folders so you say 512 max samples of kicks,snares can be in one folder ? or you telling me on root how many folders can be ?

thanks Lampdog for the answer ! obviously it was stupid move to put 2000 kicks in one folder that is why my mpc showed error
