then why pay more
If you don't see the value, don't pay it, quite simple. You purchased a product 'as is' - as long as they fix any bugs and missing features in 1.9.x, then 2.0 is entirely optional - you don't have to upgrade. Akai never promised audio tracks would make it into the software, they never promised they would improve the GUI look, they never promised real time time stretching and warping - there's no false advertising.
Of course it would be 'nice' if it were free, we all like free, but I don't think Akai owe everyone endless free updates. $99? $49? who knows what Akai will charge. Whatever happens, some people will always be unhappy. Nothing exists in a bubble - Akai have to fund development and like any company they'll be looking to existing customers as well as new ones to achieve that.
If you'd rather buy, for example, a full DAW like Logic Pro X, then that's your choice - just remember Apple offered no reduced fee upgrade from Logic Pro 9 - even existing owners had to buy the entire application at full price. Major version upgrades always come at a price - there's no sustainable business model if you give existing customers everything for free, forever.
