Bug reports & end-user support for Akai's MPC Software 'controllers' including the new MPC Studio 2, the MPC Touch, MPC Renaissance & original MPC Studio and MPC StudioB lack.

Adding as much features as they did 1.3 through 1.9 in one update

Then I can see paying for something new packed with loads of new features, not just another normal update with a couple new features and different color scheme.

They should make more cash by releasing new controller instead of asking money to existing users for software update! The soft should be free when we have already bought the hardware.
And it would make happier users!!!
We are now in 2016, it is an old thing to pay for soft update, even so that the soft is still not finished and polished!!

Akai are a business and want to generate cash from as many angles as possible. So while some people will ideally upgrade their hardware there's always going to be people who bought an MPC Studio 4 years ago with have absolutely no intention of making any further hardware purchases - should they really expect to get a lifetime of software updates based entirely on that initial purchase? And what about the people buying second hand? Akai made no money from them in the first place - should they be given free updates for life?

All the new purchasers might get 2.0 for 'free', but they'll eventually have to pay when 3.0 comes out, so then they'll be the ones griping. That's the way it goes.

Other than bug fixes and ensuring advertised features are implemented in the product , I don't think people should 'expect' any updates whatsoever, not unless Akai are advertising 'comes with 12 months of free updates'. You buy a product and any updates beyond bug fixes are really a bonus IMO.

That said, if they are going to charge for 2.0, then they better make sure the last 1.9.x is perfectly stable and bug free - or at the very least continue to provide bug fix updates for it until it is stable. That way the 2.0 upgrade is entirely optional - you can stay at 1.9 and have a perfectly usable product or choose to upgrade for the new features.

I do agree that there should be a decent grace period if you've recently purchased an MPC, but what is the 'acceptable grace period'? There has to be a cut off point somewhere.

Many are saying that the 2.0 cost around U $ 99.00
and do not mind paying
but with U $ 200.00 If you can buy a complete Daw
then why pay more

I think it's unrealistic to expect a full incremented upgrade for free, there is no precedent for this to be the case. If we expect everything to be free and then we will get updates indicative of it being free. If you sold someone a beat you wouldn't call them up a year later and say hey I just made a new banging drum kit let me redo that song I sold you and add these new drums "for free", but if they said to you hey I like those new drums that you have would you redo this song and add those drums and "I'll pay you", then you would happily do that. It requires a lot of work and development hours to provide all this good. I think $99 is very reasonable, now if they say $199 then they'd be trippin'.

If you don't see the value, don't pay it, quite simple. You purchased a product 'as is' - as long as they fix any bugs and missing features in 1.9.x, then 2.0 is entirely optional - you don't have to upgrade. Akai never promised audio tracks would make it into the software, they never promised they would improve the GUI look, they never promised real time time stretching and warping - there's no false advertising.

Of course it would be 'nice' if it were free, we all like free, but I don't think Akai owe everyone endless free updates. $99? $49? who knows what Akai will charge. Whatever happens, some people will always be unhappy. Nothing exists in a bubble - Akai have to fund development and like any company they'll be looking to existing customers as well as new ones to achieve that.

If you'd rather buy, for example, a full DAW like Logic Pro X, then that's your choice - just remember Apple offered no reduced fee upgrade from Logic Pro 9 - even existing owners had to buy the entire application at full price. Major version upgrades always come at a price - there's no sustainable business model if you give existing customers everything for free, forever.

I would love to pay for a 5.0 version (yes I said 5.0). If you know what I mean.

So if I understand well your point you should be ok to pay for each soft upgrade? 1.1 50$, 1.2 50$, ... 2.0 100$ we can go a long way like this...

Vote with your wallet. Some of us are okay with paying for updates and I understand those who think they shouldn't have to pay.

Bring on the new effects and audio tracks.

No, clearly you don't understand my point well. I didn't say to pay for each update. So far Akai put out many, many FREE updates and along the way have added many features, all at no charge, so your argument is pure fantasy.

For the first time in 4 years, Akai are going to offer an optional upgrade - you can choose to update or not. You can stay on 1.9.x if you wish, no one is forcing you to pay. You've still got the original hardware and software that you purchased, no one is taking that away from you.

If you don't want to pay for the 2.0 update, sell your current MPC and buy an MPC Touch when 2.0 comes out, you'll get 2.0 for free that way.

MPC Tutor: Your posts on this topic are very refreshing and clearly come from someone who knows what they're talking about and understands business.

Thank you for your level headed posts. Hopefully others come to learn their value.

The immense level of whining and victim mentality in the world today sickens me :(

I won't be upgrading to 2.0 right away for no reason other than I don't absolutely need the new features at this time. Maybe when it actually gets released I will want it.
I would upgrade for the $400 in AiR products. I'm excited about the whole thing.
