sampling different elements from a song is one thing.........wasting your time chopping up a whole song is another......

if you don't have an ear for a good sample or a break then you are just chopping zhit up and hoping for a fluke.....

Choppping a song is not wasting time, as of now with the chop methods in the Ren, Studio, and Touch. Its done very easily. I came from the 2000xl to the Studio and I love the ability to chop the song, but do you. Trust me I can hear good samples.

Seems like I struck a nerve with most of you!! Like I said none of us are superproducers, if we were we wouldnt be on here talking about chopping techniques and whats crazy.

there's really no rule for sampling and flipping samples, everybody does what suits them best at any given moment. limits imposed by hardware samplers are fading away as technology advances.

personally I dont like wasting time looking for perfect chops, I usually wanna start banging out the beat structure as fast as possible, do adjustments with some of the meat and potatos already i in the pot :)

I give props to people who still rock old school gear and got time for all that jazz, I dont have patience for it.

beauty of non-destructive chopping is results without commitment, I mean who wouldnt wanna have a wife and still date other women ^^^^^^^this dude

chopping whole songs is the equivalent of walking into a record shop and buying all the records......and then stashing them at your mothers gates for no good reason.....

carry on anyway.....i'm just me, but I think you are bonkers......

what's wrong with that, how many times I've walked into thrift store and bought a whole damn box of wax, some of which i kept and what didnt need i gave away

mpc ren is not mpc 60 where you limited to few seconds of sample time and 2 banks of sounds, why limit yourself when dont have to, there's no rule saying you stay the old school way, times are changing, get with the times  if everybody dressed the same, looked the same, spoke the same, smelled the same how boring this world would be

one of the more frequent brought up subjects about mpc ren is not being standalone machine. personally since I started making beats 10 years ago one of the biggest gripes for me was poor integration of hardware music gear with computer...setting up, tweaking settings, tracking out etc the list goes on, so much time wasted on unnecessary things....it's a pleasure to be able to sit in front of 16 pads and start doing whatever the hell you wish. and to top it if off as more features is added and bugs ironed out, do it how you want it instead of what you needing to be doing imposed by some limitation.

by the way shout out to Cardiff, I'm there once every couple of years or so

The fastest way i think would be using the lazy chop feature.. Especially for classical stuff where transients arnt easy for autochop to do the work.. unless the song is transient heavy with percussive rythums there isn't anyway way faster than lazy chop.. i tend to use pad paramters slice style and then bash out stuff quickly. Then pad dupe a chop and change the new pad paramters to look for other parts if i need to..

kinda what i'm saying is that if you are sampling whole songs its all rather hit and hope......whereas I prefer to listen to a whole song and find the bit I want to flip......

but like you say, each to his own....i doubt anything will make me think chopping up a whole song is a good idea....
