That's not how it works. They're not going to virtualize x86 on the low powered ARM to run VSTs. Trust me on this, its not feasible and not going to happen.
The hardware is absolutely a factor and I can say with 100% certainty, it is not running Windows. General purpose VSTs will NOT work. Now, Akai might have cross compiled some of their VSTs (AiR's vsts) to work standalone and on ARM/Linux, but that is a stretch. I am almost certain you're just going to get sample playback when standalone, no VST.
