Cool joint. So you built a MPC Live holder? You know you can get one for less than $40 bucks? Enjoy your live.

Thank youso much bro for showing me that drive. :worthy:
I just coped one a few minutes ago. If it works fine l will cope 3 more in one shot. Yes sir to get a 256MB cache is really sweet.

Have you seen a Sata 1TB 3.5 or 2.5 HHD with a 256MB cache? Or a 500GB.

I have 3 open enclosures so l'm good and loving the compatibly and ease of swapping out HHD when need be.

I do not know if 1TB or 500gb 256 MB cache drives off hand. So I'd have to end up googling it just like you would I suppose. With drives that small, you are better suited to just get a SSD. There's been 1TB Crucial MX300's for about $200-220 so if you hold out I'm sure you'd be able to find one.

Also, If you're curious about which revision of the 8TB 256 Meg Cache you got (Most of the time, they have the normal OEM ones and then a white label variant (just a different sticker really), it doesn't affect the quality of the drive, check this here: https://www.reddit.com/r/DataHoarder/co ... ompendium/

It'll tell you how to find out what drive is in the case without opening it.

First put your pic where you can find it on your computer.

Go to:

http://www.imagehousing.com

1. Choose the pic.
2. Pick "Avatar"
3. When the pic comes up pick #4 (which is the bottom line), highlight it, copy, come back here and paste it.
That's it.

That was some great info you posted. I definitely want WD Red.

Here's where l am.

Right what is first important to me is super storage ability.
Next is great drives along with top notch enclosures that can give me speeds from 6Gbps to 40Gbps. My Eastwest instruments are huge plus lm getting Spit fire instruments and when l am using them they need to come up off those drives hot!

I'm most likely to go the thunther bolt 3 way just to run my Eastwest stuff. I'm looking at this enclosure at the momemet. I wuold love a dual bay one so l could put 2 HHD in it. One dedicated to Eastwest and the other to Spit Fire joints.

Bottom line l'm going the Thunder Bolt way or eSata way.

Only $131 dollars. I'd rather rock wit the G-Technology joints, they have many options plus they are tough Aluminum and the aesthetics look very professional.

New computer with the necessary ports that fit for me.

I've handled my sh*t a little bit more hood than that. I would never pay that much for an enclosure, What I've done with certain enclosures that I felt ran a little hot was just took the lid off it and drilled a bunch of holes to let air go through. It ended up resulting in a 10 celcius drop. The problem with a lot of enclosures is that they end up looking prettier than keeping the drive cool.

I don't know what software you'd have to run on the mac to monitor this but on my pc's I use "Hard Disk Sentinel" where it shows the temperatures of my drives at all times. If the temperature starts getting out of hand, it'll start flashing yellow and it also warns me if anything fishy ends up happening with the drive, like a bunch of abrupt read or write errors, etc.

The biggest issue plaguing these larger hard drives for years is the APM / advanced power management settings. So for example, a lot of drives would be set to turn themselves off after a few minutes of being idle, which will also explain why you may get a minor delay for a few seconds when the drive starts up again. That click sound you hear when it does that is the read/write arm on it restarting which ends up wearing down the drive platters over time. So what we end up having to do is use different boot disks, etc, to hard set/override the default set APM settings in the firmware to either disable it all together (so the drive is always on 24/7) or set the idle timeout to something much higher than a few minutes.

Many of these drives are only rated between 300,000 to 500,000 (for higher end enterprise drives) for Load / Unload cycles, so if your hard drive is doing that 2000 times a day, you can see how fast a drive wears down and also important to keep the drives running in a cool and non humid environment. Laptop drive load cycles climb a lot faster in part due to a protection mechanism, because if the drive is on and spinning 24/7 and you drop the laptop, the drive will likely be dead or the data will be ruined vs if it was idle / not spinning when the thing is dropped, you're not as likely to lose data.

You can see it but we can't that's why no one can comment on your pic. Try the method l gave and you'll see.

Peace.

For l don't mind spending that product. It's multy purpose not single purpose. I've seen triple purpose enclosures e.g., Firewire 400, Firewire 800 and USB 3.0 at $78 dollars which l don't want because they don't do the speeds l want. The new technology will be a lil expensive. Just like SSD drives are expensive but they will go down and something new will come along.

The one l showed deals with Thunder Bolt and 3.0 and it stays cool and quiet. I don't mind investing in this company. They are very well built. I have central air so everything in my stu will will be cool. Plus they have ventilation holes in it already to stay cool.
When it comes to looks l have to be on point about mines. Lets just face it people go on looks first in this industry, my stu has to look to par, clean, well put together and having things that look professional. Get an important client they don't want to see a mess like my last setup was wack! And those G-Technology joints are very attractive. My look can macth my sound.

But l didnt buy it yet as l said l may go with a dual tray eSata or dual tray Thunder Bolt from G-Technology.

I've done really well in saving dough so this won't break me.

I can't wait to just get all what l need, cause l know in a minute l'm gettin Elysium Harps soon.
