Just thought I'd re-post this as I have discovered a second area where the MPC is dithering down 24 bit audio to 16 bit, despite 'preferences' being set to '24 bit' (both in 'Drag & Drop'' and 'General').

1) Bounce to Sample - when rendering a MIDI track to audio via MAIN > Bounce to Sample, the resulting file is always 16 bit (reported this many times, still not fixed).

2) Chopping - load a 24 bit file, chop and 'convert' either 'destructively' to new samples, or to patched phrase and the resulting files are 16 bit.

I only just noticed this behaviour in chop, I just checked the old MPC Software 1.9.6 and it's doing there as well, probably always has done. This is really poor, how hard can it be to ensure bit rate is maintained? Can you imagine Logic Pro randomly converting audio to 16 bit and it not being addressed as a matter of urgency?

When I tested it, it didn't work.

'Drag and drop' does seem to work as intended - if you click the 'Export Audio' icon and drag the icon to your desktop, the resulting file is 24 bit. It's specifically the 'Bounce to Sample' option that doesn't work as intended - this produces 16 bits every time. Basically there isn't actually a preferences setting for this, you'd assume that the 'drag and drop' setting would cover this as well, but it doesn't.

The MPC's bit rate handling is all over the place. Ironically the MPC1000 program export doesn't dither to 16 bit, so any 24 bit samples in a DRUM program remain at 24 bit and hence will not actually load into an MPC1000. (BTW, have reported this previously, so Akai should be well aware of it).

I'm not sure what's more concerning, that Akai haven't fixed all this stuff as a matter of urgency, or that there isn't more chatter about this in the first place. Pretty sure if Logic was randomly rendering audio down to 16 bit there would be uproar.

IMO a professional audio workstation that cannot maintain the user defined audio bit rate isn't really particularly professional and it's concerning that after years of being aware of this flaw Akai don't consider it worth fixing. I want to offer my customers 24 bit patched phrase loops, but currently that isn't actually possible. Although considering the lack of public posting about this, maybe the majority of MPC users these days are happy to use 16 bit for everything?

Ahhhh now I see.. You misunderstood me back than.

What I meant was the: Bounce to sample and Bounce to audio track feature (not drag and drop)

Whenever your on the mainscreen and you hit the pencil in the Track section you can bounce your track to sample or to audio track.

Whatever you do it will bounce it to 16bit (It's a mess, there is no excuse for this, they need to fix it :Sigh: )
