How much do you think the "bill for good programmers" would be to get clips to not stop playing just because you changed tracks, compared to the cost of developing soft synths that run in stand alone?
I agree - fixing the core features is way more important than adding new features IMO. In terms of cost though, Akai didn't develop those synths, they just integrated them - completely different cost and level of effort to integrate versus develop. Software companies do it all the time - announce features that create the perception of BIG levels of effort, when in reality it was probably cheaper to do that, rather than fix the issues that currently exist. Splice, autosampler, soft synths - all three of these have APIs for integrating, so that a software developer just needs to make the right calls and pass the right data back and forth. These integrations create the perception of big effort and cost though, when in reality it was probably easier than fixing the core features and issues people are talking about.
