Support and discussion for all of Akai’s modern standalone MPCs including the MPC X / X SE, MPC Live 1, 2 & 3, MPC One / One+, MPC Key 37/61.

I Guarantee if Akai Drops another MPC this Summer, Me and Half the people in this forum will Go out and buy it. Then The Other Half of us will wait til the 2nd Year of its existence, Pull the Trigger and get it because of Peer Pressure lol. If there's a Market for it, Akai will provide it. Believe it or not, There'll always be a Market for the Standalone/Controller Market. The Best of Both Worlds.

Compare it to Vehicles. The Technology is there for Cars to Run on Pure Electricity or whatever. So what they do...Make Cars that run on Both Gas & Electric. Don't wanna up-end the Demand for fuel. Make Money on Both Markets

I've been following and thinking about this. With all my issues being with the software, if it weren't released with a full blown DAW in it, I'd pass on the hardware upgrade. And I'd only be interested in the software if it were on par with other DAWs.

And the more I think about this, Akai's apparent lack of interest in creating any sort of ecosystem makes me doubt they're considering such an all in one machine.

Yup. Probably the most popular standalone units.
No way in hell there's an end to standalones coming…on the contrary.
We all use computers so much, it feels nice every now and then to make music with a device that does not connect to Pornhub (working on a thing with MPC Live and Roland JV-1010 here as we speak).

Being first to market with real 5G is a thing right now for instance. Its what Samsung is trying to get to the flip phone so hard. There are constantly major things worth "updating the line up" with, but with that said - most folks don't update their phone every year - despite the release schedule. Most folks stick with the same phone for 3-4 years *bar an accident*.

Unfortunately, services have become a thing, I don't currently have office on my computers at home because my only discounted options involved a subscription. Even Roland is putting their ACB technology on the backburner as they push Roland Cloud. I don't doubt that Akai is looking for ways to implement services, and the most obvious one is a merging/meeting between the ideas of Splice & Roland Cloud, but more in-house a la AIR. If they had the capital and the hardware was up to it, they should target LANDR for integration as well.

Establish a stand-alone that doesn't require a computer, build in an easy way to get Samples & Synths (Service), provide a means to finish/polish the tracks (LANDR) (Service), and you then have created a livable ecosystem. I can't say how much I would believe in it holding up, but that's because I'm praying for subscription services and the US College System to both collapse (I got two kids, I'm worried about that haha).

However, I disagree with something you said at the end - the hardware is NOT solid. That is why they do need a spec bump at some point, it can't keep up with the needs of someone who would be willing to get services attached to the device. For "me" who samples his own instruments, does vocal chops, plays out some stuff on the integrated synths, and puts it together pretty straight up, the services aren't needed and the hardware is fine. For a large portion of people here and on FB (the unhappy minority is usually louder than the majority so I can't say most), they've pushed the hardware to the end already and wouldn't invest in a service.

There is only 3 major players in the smartphone game. Samsung. Apple and Huawei. When I stated the hardware is solid, my point was, that it's not falling apart. As far as the internals, well...it's a tablet SOC you can only push it so hard.

lol lm that 1% that won't buy it.

My title is "END OF THE MPC STANDALONE"

Not MPC standalone/Controller, Digitakt etc.

Akai will not be in the playing field to put out multiple Standalones. Not tethered to a computer MPC.

How many units did they produce?

They had lots of extra parts left over from MPC Touch. I think that's the only reason to release the LIVE.

Frisbi wrote:I guess Mpc X and Live will be produced for a couple of years at least, until they will be totally working and they will start with next level Mpc.Or maybe they are already working on it but first they want to reach a good level on the current Mpc generation before moving on.

I agree, this year is the apart of the Decline Stage. They are on step 2.

Step 1. Maintain
Step 2. Add features
Step 3. Reduce cost
Step 4. Discontinue.

Most people I know who bought them, did so for nostalgia/collecting. Other people bought them, to unbox on YouTube and make Tutorial videos. The rest bought them for continued education, live/productions use, Thee addicted to buying things crew, or trying to keep up with the Jones.

The rest are hard core MPC users. The Ride and Die. The live in the closet and don't wash for 5 years. The get off my lawn you computer kids. The I'm DAWLESS and EXTREME Vegan. The, we're only doing this the real way with: Vinyl, 6 seconds of sample time, broken needle, and USB Floppy drive..

Regarding the issue to them not implementing all the features in the machine without ties to a computer right off the get go. i think its possible. just crossing fingers for a future jjos i guess   Naah i swear... if akai didnt add a bunch of shit we didnt need, 2gb of ram wouldnt be too little... i know it is in this day in age, but as of sampling and such, if they didnt tendor to people into clip launching/loop or gimmicks like the x/y(kaosilator" style effects and focus on the proper issues at hand we would be fine, but doing that is just.... :WTF: :Sigh: I think we will get the features we are looking for, its just gonna take time. But then i guess alot of ya have been waiting for what seems like forever....
