I think that isnt the question but why it didnt ship with one - as far as I can remember my Force didnt come with one either though being advertised with Ableton integration ...

The lite version of ableton is $99 dollars, so if it came with it. The Force would've cost 100 dollars more. Just like FL STUDIO Fruity Edition and Akai Pro Fire package.

would it really - I believe one of my NI devices did come with a lite license - I sometimes feel they give it away for almost free with different hardware

It's never free, they just added into the cost of the device.

Done and Added.

Just depends on the licensing contract between the two. Charles is right it’s never free, but that doesn’t mean it’s also not given dirt cheap.

I could see live lite being maybe as low as a few dollars per unit it’s attached to. That 100 dollar consumer might only be 30 dollars between businesses and then negotiated from there based on volume, period of time, even reported revenue.

It’s pointless to speculate on.

As for anyone without live light I think I have 4-5 key codes from assorted gear I bought. It shouldn’t be too hard to get a copy of that or at the very least do a free trial.

It might not help you this time but to me this is just akai trying to modernize their equipment. Build a foundation that can be competitive in today’s cutthroat crazy marketing music technology world...

Intro is the paid for version. Lite is the free version bundled with hardware or other software

I got it free with a £4 iOS app so cost is minimal if anything

That's a good move and you're correct. Lite and Intro are different (Not by much). So buying the Triqtraq iOS app and get Live Lite for 5 dollars is a good move. Triqtraq

Lite is pretty much a demo. The idea that a demo retails @ $100, and that the Push 2 comes w/ Lite as its base price model, are two of the reasons I didn’t get a Push 2. It’s rapacious and Unappealing.

Never was a fan of any LE version. I didn't know that Lite and Intro were separate version.

I haven't seen the video, just reading through thread (cause news is always fun).

I dunno, to me the MPC is in a weird place, and I'm not sure where they should take it.

As a controller its overpriced and limiting compared to other existing gear.

As a standalone, the hardware is set, and there is only so much (feature wise) they can truly "add-on" to existing.

Real money is in ecosystems, and most likely these aren't the last MPCs.

So, if "I" was in their current shoes, I might do something along the same lines, build towards the next set of equipment, there is only so much more they are going to get out of standalone mode, and I'm sure they've data-mined not only their DAW, but general use of folks who have purchased their equipment - and seen a trend that equates to Ableton.

I haven't seen ANYONE actually big up the MPC DAW, and I'm NOT unique in exporting to another DAW to do any heavy lifting, I was only using the MPC software for handling stand-alone mode. So while - yes - they should strive to improve the MPC DAW, there is more value for the *general* public in integration with other DAWs (and I'm sure Ableton has several reasons for being chosen, including popularity and Akai's experience with the DAW).

I dunno, I get the frustration from some users, but if I was in their shoes, I'd do something pretty similar...hell is it that different from Reason, who just made the new version of their DAW pretty much a massive set of VST a la Komplete?

With that said, I STILL would want Akai to team up with say iZotope to build some kind of high quality mixing and mastering tools/algorithms/assistance - into the next MPC to reduce DAW dependency further. But but playing nice with others is a strong start.

Akai doesn’t even have the eco system setup correctly. Unless you buy extended service you can’t go in and redownload expansions you purchased years ago.

If the expansions or air stuff is on sale, you aren’t notified on the main page.

I’m really surprised they didn’t bake Xpand 2 into the software when they saw how popular hybrid was when they did it.

One thing the NI does right is the eco system. Everything is available in one place and in one click.

The MPC X / Live and software is a jack of all trades, king of nothing story. It tries to be a dedicated hardware sequencer/ sampler workstation and a full daw at the same time, but it doesn’t excell at both of them. Focussing on easier integrarion with already well developed daws instead of trying to develop their own daw will hopefully make it easier for Akai to keep their main focus on developping standalone functionallity.

A better working standalone with just the software the get your projects inside a daw environment might be the future, starting with Ableton.

Like I said before...Its a Wrap for the Current Standalone Hardware. Its only so much they can implement with the Current Hardware structure inside the Live/X.
Their main goal now...is to Generate Revenue for the Next MPC. They're probably finishing up the Research & Development on that. So this Move with Ableton was a Power Move bring more Money in. Lets face it...There are more "Software Producers" than those of us who prefer Standalone Only! Dollars & Cents!!

Another Observation I made.... I Believe the Death of Windows 7 by 2020, Compatibility Issues with that Catalina Sh*t, has something to do with it. Lots of 32 Bit Software, wont have support. Akai didn't foresee the Problems that may occur with a lot of the Drivers currently being used.

So this is a Golden Time to get Under the Sheets with Ableton!

So I predict One More Minor Standalone Update, then Boom! A Set Of New Hardware Standalone/Controller Units Geared to the 64Bit Realm. With Updated Hardware inside to handle 3rd Party VSTi's, Multi-Timbural, Disk Streaming, etc

By March we'll all be Salivating over the MPC XXL/Live XL/Force XL

After re reading this entire post I realize some of you are possibly incapable of being happy with Akai and appreciating all they have accomplished thus far with the MPC X and MPC Live.

They could grant you guys with everything you've requested and a unicorn and you'll still find something negative about your MPC because for some reason you can't recognize the dopeness of your MPC.

Our MPCs are dope y'all, why can't you see the dopeness?
