There is a lot of accuracy in your post.

I don't think us software guys are "mad", just some of us are disappointed. I'm fine, my two biggest gripes are fixed (sorta) - Ableton Export and internal synth. But as a tool its not strong enough to outpace software at ANYTHING, so to enjoy it, it has to be the workflow. For me, the workflow was solid, but some of the details need refinements or improvements that a new iteration would require. So I'm looking at updates less in terms of getting BACK to using my Live, and more to see what the plan is moving forward.
For me to buy a new MPC or a new Force is going to require something that either short-circuits the need for a computer without jumping through dumb number of hoops, or establishes a ridiculous volume of beat making content...so I'm hoping to see that.

I'm sort of here. I've always been hybrid. I started with live instruments, hard synths, romplers, drum machines & samplers, but recorded into Pro Tools, Logic, and now Studio One. But in the last 1.5 - 2 years, I've incorporated virtual instruments and now rely on them heavily.
I initially thought the Live, its software & a keyboard controller would suffice. But the software is too far behind other DAWs. Now I'm enjoying & refining the combo workflow of the MPC standalone & S1 and looking for improvements to the hardware in the name of efficiency & consistency.
For the next round of MPCs to get my attention, the workflow would have to be far superior to what it is now, with additional RAM. The MPC way is inefficient & inconsistent and should take notes from DAWs in this regard.
The groove baby, the groove...
