I think though, the sudden attention flip to 2.8 is more a reflection of the little value that 2.7 brought to the general MPC community (I'd like to think this forum represents the general community anyway). But yeah, you're definitely right, the "instant gratification syndrome" has something to do with it too.

Man I still haven't tried that AutoSample on the MPC. Used to use it a lot when it was auto sampler (Redmatica I think was the company name). Useful utility.

I see that, 2.7 may be of little value to the general community. For new buyer, it's a pretty nice deal, especially with the price of MPC Live and Akai Force at $1000 right now. This may push, the used market down to the $500 to $700 dollar range for them.

Sometimes I ask myself, what more could people really want and use inside these MPC's. How much, is too much? I don't need the instruments or the 8 tracks. I just want a tight/rock solid MIDI sequencer, a full fledged sampler, a nice array of effects, and more direct I/O's. The only thing I got was effects.
Along with being about render stems.

As you know, the more we use a machine the more optimize what we do with it. For me, it's always comes back to the most, direct work flow as possible, with a couple of work arounds. Hey, Redmatica was MAC only, right?

It's useful when creating sample sets. Layer a bunch of sounds and auto sample them as one. But I have to be in sound design mode, like I'm am right now. Configuring my set of sounds for this new project.

mr_debauch wrote:autosample is the thing to may keygroups out of VSTs and hardware keyboard romplers and stuff, no? I thought the MV had that back in the day. I personally don't give a **** about that really... i would rather just keep those sounds where they reside and make different stuff on different gear or only sample as needed if it involves a song in the mpc. The idea of converting motif (or insert keyboard/vst name) patches sounds like a total drag.

I agree, for the new users it would be more appealing.

And yeah, that’s about all I want too. If they stopped development today I’d be cool with what it does. I’d be much more satisfied than where they left the 5000 when I owned that.

Yep, agree - we think alike. I honestly use about 70% of what the MPC does. Never used sub mixes, never used the software to write anything, never used the FX. Just manipulating samples and sequencing. So, I definitely don’t speak from a power-user perspective - so everyone should always take my opinions with a grain of salt.

I don’t know if it was always Mac - buy the time I bought it, I’m pretty sure it was. I only owned it for about a year before Apple bought them.

I've tried power using MPC's and I always ran into the RAM, CPU Processing, and severe lack of I/O. I want to run 24/96 piano sample set and not choke the machine. Not because I need 24/96 but because that's their native bit rate and I don't want convert the sounds. I can't do that.

I want to push 24+ tracks of audio out at once, because I'm passing it though a console. I can't do that! Not to mention, I want to be able to setup 8 mic drum set and sample directly into the MPC on their own track. I can't do that. Also 64 note polyphony is not going to do it.

What is the point of a track mixer, if you don't have enough outs to match the track 1 for 1. Those are the things, I want to do. MPC's should be known as monster machines and way beyond any machine in it's class. Too me that is what makes a classic, that is what I really want.

Yeah outside gear is a no more for me!
Now software and plugs hmmm.
If its something l can use lma get. If it doesn't support offline computers lm not getting it. I have only 2 that nit supporting oflline that's they are really dope.

Man my PC don't do no damage on my electric bill :-) l just run a few things and that's it. No more wires for me :-)

CharlesRandolph wrote:Yes people want 2.8 way too fast, dudes don't even know how to auto sample or time stretch. My days of having ton and tons and tons of gear are over. Upkeep, Electric Bill, Constantly checking for gear updates, Tons of money spent on cables a year, dusting, re-arranging gear. Same thing goes for plug ins and software updates.

Danoc wrote:You know why people are like that? Their minds have turned to mush! To much digital stuff, got dam iphone this and that, their minds have gone wacko. Short attention spand. Just look back when we didn't have all these phones and electronics. That's why l meditate everyday and keep away from devices fir a while. People want things to do it for them instead of the joy of doing a think tank to solving a work around.

You think lm lying just look how fast the threads went up about 2.8
We just dammit got 2.7 and in a second dudes are already on 2.8
Smh crazy asf!

Yeah the six outputs is definitely a bummer. It leaves me with tracks to split the kick, the snare, two mono things I want to run through something outboard, and a stereo mix of everything else. Along side my 4 channels from my sampler and all my synths, takes some work to get everything mixed around that stereo pair from the MPC.

The 8 tracks they give you would be useable for me, if I could decide whether it was 8 stereo or 16 mono. Id be tracking everything from my console back into the MPC so mono is all I need. I have 16 channels, including the 6 the MPC take up so they've got all the audio tracks I need, they're just stuck in stereo which I hardly ever use!

I attempted to go 100% in the box, then missed my synths. I haven't been using them THAT much, so they may go back in the closet. Better yet, on the market.

But I have romplers, a drum machine, mic pres, rack amps & other stuff that I need to get around to selling. Should've done it sooner so I may wait a few months after Christmas.

Virtual instruments work for most things for my needs. I still have a few hard synth patches (Moog, Studio Electronics & Vermona) I can't duplicate with Arturia stuff, but that's very few.

To bring it back to 2.8, though I only use the current MPC instruments to sketch, I wouldn't mind more instruments. AIR's lineup in the Live would be sweet.

Im inside the box 100% and l love it.
I started transitioning in 2012 now lm here :-)
2.7 l will load tonite, making a track for my project and lm almost finished. I use the MPC live for drum patterns. I do not and will not track out. I export my stems so therefore lm not limited to how many tracks go out. Sweet for me. :-)

Yeah I'm in the box now too. Got rid of my hardware synths a while ago. Still miss them sometimes. Which is why I subscribed to the Roland Cloud. Can't say yet whether I think it's worth it, but I've used a few 1080 sounds on recent records.

The main one I miss is the Yamaha Motif, but I have the wav export of it, but it's not the same. One day I believe all of those synths will be VSTi.

Also for 2.8, it would be great to be able to set the time signature without having to set it in the global preferences. Another omission from previous MPCs, and a head scratcher omission. I repeat - not a serious DAW. :WTF:

 Waaaaaatttt! You gone ITB? Yeah l miss my hardware also.
Yo l thought Roland has those as VSTis already? Expensive though.

Yeah they just added the 5080 which is cool. All the SRX cards on available now too, and the 808 and 909 are as well. So far it’s cool. Not sure I’ll continue after one year though. But it’s cool to have.

I could probably go completely ITB with the Live but Im pretty stubborn and I like this rack of extra gear I have. Lately Ive been making myself use it all too. Since the Live only has six outputs, I make sure my sampler is also running full speed, and Ill swap out 'ambient' tracks and background noises with my two Waldorfs now. I could never get rid of either one of those things. Ive ditched all my other "normal" synths because really, you can find em all in VST/AU format now. Nobody knows you used the Clouds JP-8 and not a real one. The Waldorfs will never leave here and there is something to be said about getting to "play" your effects with a real mixer. I was playing around with the gain change the other night on some bass samples and man, if it weren't for the filters in it, I could probably even ditch my Emu but I love that thing so much. And yeah Akai hasn't come up with any morphing peak/shelf filters like Emu did.
