Hmm... maybe I’m missing something about the auto sample feature... I’ve never “had to skip keys” for ram. I understand what you’re trying to say but I’ve made over a hundred keygroups and never had any issues until I got to about 8-10 keygroup patches of 61 notes, on the d05 I did those in stereo too... even then save programs and restart the device wasn’t too bad or time consuming.

Disk Streaming is a good add, but until it's a reality. I'll just use this thing called MIDI, connected to desktop that can stream all my sample set with no issue. However, the Dexibell VIVO SX7 has been added to my 2020 purchase list.

I think we all make some confusion between Cpu and Ram here (me included).
The bad warp algorithm, the very limited polyphony on Air synths and the lack of more complicated effects (granular for example) are all due to the cpu which is not the most performing one on Mpc. Disk streaming would not solve any of these issues.
I already had some problems with internal sata hd, I had glitches here and there and I had a hard time to understand where they were coming from until I transferred all datas on sd card, removed internal hd and the glitches disappeared.
Since I mostly use Live to play live, imagine if I could ever trust a disk streaming on Mpc to play live.
And finally I think the best solution would be more Ram and a better cpu and if this comes, we will just forget about disk streaming.

CharlesRandolph wrote:@Frisbi @TheDoctor So what good workaround or undiscovered features have you found?

To be honest I don't have any workaround because I tend to see what I got and make my own workflow. For example the way I work(I describe that in another thread) I don't use much tracks. Instead I use the first 4 banks in a drum program for my samples so I can easily select what I need or use the erase to hold multiple parts in once. My main window is program edit so I can easily adjust the sample parameter. I don't even use the pad mixer view because I simply change the Qlink to adjust volume, pan etc. I found extremely easy and I rarely have to use the screen. I'm actually thinking to get an X so I can use the buttons under the screen and with the next sequence I don't even need the main page but just set up a bunch of empty sequence and hit the "next seq" button when I want to work in the next sequence. I'm linear when I make music so it will work easily for me. Of course sometimes I have to use the touchscreen and organise things better but overall for the 80% of the time I just use the touch screen to scroll the program edit tab or add effect, with the X I could use the arrow pad to move around, bye bye touchscreen :)

you're right but I don't think the Air has limited polyphony. A lot of digital synth cost almost like the MPC One and they have the same voice. We can of course use multiple instance of any Air plugin compare to the single instance of a digital synth unless is multi timbral but the majority aren't.
Did you try another sata HD? I didn't have any problem with my 500gb Samsung SSD.

Air synths on standalone have 4 voice polyphony and you cannot have more then 8 of them on a project.
That's because cpu cannot handle more then that.
After months of irritations looking for the glitches reason, as I found the solution I am just staying with sd card. You know, I have to relax a bit.
I will try with 256gb ssd soon, just to understand if it was a bad hd or a bad internal connection.
But now I am fine and enjoying a glitchless Mpc.

I think Electric has more voice but yeah they just have 4 voice but did you noticed that you have to spend the same money on a digital synth to have more voice? I don't even count analog synth. If you spend less you end up with 4 voice anyway. So the fact I can use 8 of them it's amazing because if I want more voice in standalone I have to spend more just for the synths, if they're not multi timbral I have to buy 8 of them. So I think in term of quality/price Akai is winning, Air synth sound amazing. They sound better than a lot of plugin and digital synth and we had for free :)

Yeah if you don't have problem with SD just stick with it, in the end you have to make music without weird things happaning :D

Btw all this CPU and RAM problem are easily fixable if Akai let us decide different bit depth per project. I know working with 32bit is the best but honestly I'm totally fine with 24bit and the end users won't even notice if it's 32bit or mp3. Just by lowering the project at 24bit I think the CPU will "breath" and the RAM will have more space of course.

Yeah I kind of like Air synths, especially Electric, and since I got an Mc101, I am more then fine now.
I was not complaining about them, it was just to show that Mpc cpu is way more limited then Ram limitations but nobody talks about that.
I never liked plugins synths to be honest.
mc101 polyphony is around 128 voices, just to compare it with 4 voice Air synths.
But yeah, Air synths are not bad if you take time to edit them.
I use electric sometimes to obtain interesting percussive sounds, it works great this way. And Bass synth also has some very decent Bass sounds, I like the Sine bass a lot.
The only real thing I miss on Mpc now is a granular effect and better XY.
For the rest, I support Akai, they are making a great job with Mpc line.

i think the better XY should also have multiple XY areas.. with a 7 inch screen you can fit 4 grids on there. imagine controlling 8 parameters at once. It is hard to out-chaos a kaoss pad.

Let me give you this smoke!!!

There's what is called MPC software , heard of it?

If a person wants to rock in controller mode NOT STANDALONE , surely disk streaming would be pure bliss! I never said disk streaming should be for standalone but what if a person said that? How is it effecting your production life? See l didn't have to write a dam book to get my logical point across.

Most people here want disk streaming, its a function that's out, it's not it don't exist! Lummox!

TheDoctor wrote:You must be ignorant to use an mpc for orchestral stuff, I can't imagine the nightmare. I would prefer a DAW like Reaper where I can edit my audio precisely in a no destructive way, I could easily make different folder of my project all labelled and organised.
I would use NI or anyway I would give high quality EQ, comp, reverb... to orchestral stuff, no the MPC one. I wouldn't be happy with the mpc multisample engine because I would meed complex articulations for those instruments. I would prefer to work with NI stuff because they're top in term of articulations.
See you use orchestral stuff with a basic multisample engine, not high quality eq/comp/etc but then you ask for disk streaming  I think you're confused mate, your mistake is to use an MPC for orchestral stuff. Here we go again, users that pretend a device do what they want instead of find the device that works for them.
My point is why even the struggle? If I need these stuff I can't get bored to wait Akai, I will simply sell it and move on, I need to work after all right? Here where I think you and people like you make complain just because you have to pretend everything is how you want and you probably don't really work with music because again you won't waist time to wait Akai, you simply move on. An MPC is just a tool like any other, what it matter is my end goal not the type of tool I use.

I think there is a sort of Mpc mythology going on that disk streaming will solve any issue on Mpc.
First of all, Akai didn't make it yet and there must be a reason for that.
Then, if it comes, you will all be disappointed to discover it doesn't solve all Mpc issues.
And about orchestra, check Miroslav orchestra library 2, very very heavy library with perfect orchestra sound used for soundtracks and highend music.
Mpc cannot reach that with current cpu and ram, not even the 10% of it.

Exactly!

He keeps saying, "I DON'T NEED DISK STREAMING" who cares what he needs, that don't mean others don't. I don't need it for my MPC but l have sense enough to know its a dope have!

EnochLight wrote:^^ THIS X1000 ^^

I setup an auto-sample session with my System 8 - lots of pattern based stuff that would be great to have, but having to skip keys due to the limited RAM is totally an issue, no matter what way you do it. Having disc-streaming implemented correctly could potentially make this all moot - and that's just with the auto-sampling feature.

It's strange that some people just think other people's feature requests hold no value just because it doesn't fit their production approach. How does that help anyone? :WTF: :Sigh:

I will bet anyone here that once (if) disc-streaming appears, the new features that are made possible will benefit you and you'll eat that **** up like a Breaking Bad episode. So, just thank all of us now that are constantly requesting it. You're welcome. :smoker:

The mythology comes in when a dude don't need something everyone should do the same.

No one on these forums have never said disk streaming will solve EVERY ISSUE! Disk streaming will solve disk streaming!.

I have Miroslav Orchestral sounds, Eastwest Complete Composer Collection, and work in the major stu with SpitFire orchestral plugin which is probably the most highend orchestral out. Hans Zimmer etc pieces in it. Disk streaming for those is a must if you don't want notes to drop out. You're right plus a good amount of ram, but lm talking in controller mode. Where your personal computer is rammed up. Like mines is rammed up.

Akai didn't put in a lot of stuff. But that's what the updates were about. When Reason started it had no VSTi connection but now it does. Cause people asked for it.

And what if disk streaming results in dropouts or things like that?
What if it screws up Mpc architecture and put conflicts and more problems then it solves?
I mean, you all talk about it like it was a sort of magic stick that will put Mpc on another level.
I am not against it or for it, I just think that you all should consider that if Akai didn't make it, there must be a reason.
I also noticed that Roland didn't put sd streaming on new Mc, even if Sp404 definitely had it.
So are you sure it could only have benefits?
And then, if you talk about disk streaming, why you talk about controller mode? Controller mode uses computer cpu. It would not change anything if you use Mpc in controller mode,
And I repeat, with 8gb Ram nobody would talk about disk streaming.
