Just because it would look like it, doesn't mean its the same of course.

Reason is because the current step editor is just so unhandy and not much fun to work with imho (and more people)

For me it would be heaps of fun to program in this way, and for akai it would be a serious contender agains the TR8S, Toraiz and the Octatrack.

Just imagine programming drumbeats like this, with direct controls to edit the sounds, and the option to explode it to seperate tracks after. I would love that!

My screenshots are all taken from the MPC Touch which uses displaylink to become an additional monitor for your computer. The other MPCs don't use this, so screenshots are not possible. I assume they must have something set up for the guy who makes all the Akai manuals as all the graphics in those PDFs are definitely screenshots, so they probably have the HMDI port on the board enabled on a development unit at Akai HQ.

They just need to update the Step Editor UI. But you never know, the bottom half could be just that.

I understand because people do like to work that way. In the video below, he seems to get around the machine pretty easy in step sequence.

Yeah but those machines (and i am talking mostly about the octatrack now since i know it) can do what an MPC can't do. - XOX sequencer, parameter locks, individual track lengths.. that's just a few..

Reason i don't buy it it's because it is very limited in midi tracks (only 8 midi tracks) and the MPC isn't. Plus. It's an MPC #love

Well, you've answered your own question. Buy Octatrack and MIDI it up with your MPC. Maybe the AKAI Force is more of your work flow. Clips and Step Sequence.

It feels a bit doubled up to have both an octatrack and an MPC.

Plus, if they just improved this damn step sequencer, i would be very happy!

From the 2.8 speculations thread, my idea's for improving the step sequencer..

Here just an idea for some options (was motivated).
- Sequencing notes happens in the touch screen
- If you press a pad, the inserted notes for that pad immediatly becoming visible
- Easy scrolling to bars (like on elektron machines).
- Q links can be assigned in this mode per pad, but default: Attack, Decay, Pitch and Treble
- Once a pad is pressed, you can quickly open: Effects / or it shows the pad mixer.
- Global Options: Swing, tempo, Bar length, Accent, Explode all sounds to seperate tracks.

Come to think of it... basically if they switch from using the pads to insert notes from using the pads to change the assigned pad sound and use the screen to input notes, it would be so much quicker and more fun to quickly have drumpatterns going. And imagine doing this while sequencing an external synth (and us a midi keyboard to select the note). Hope this makes sense

What are you using now to Step Sequence besides the MPC?

I wonder how many takes it was for that video... There ere demo vids where the person swipes or taps 2 or 3 times before it works... & thats real!

I don't use step sequence in the MPC because i don't like it

Got a TR-8 and Elektron a4 that have a xox step sequencer.

Yes, you could use the TR-8 to midi out to the MPC. But such a drag and slower workflow.
