I was listening to a dude instruct how to load up your own keygroup programs on youtube. He had a MPC Live. I noticed there was a warp button in the program edit section which you could apply to samples in your key group program.

I went to go follow his steps and it worked, but then I noticed the little spot where the warp button was supposed to be wasn't there. Just a bare grey part of the UI in program edit mode. How weird. Then I remembered I was too excited and forgot to update my MPC One to the 2.7.2 from 2.7.1 or whatever, I hoped that would fix this seemingly strange omission of function (FOR WARP).

I am posting because I can't find a soul who talks about this. Do you know if there is some setting I need to change, or are MPC One's (apart from having the same software as the X and Live) actually operating without the warp function for keygroup programs.

Sound Design wise, the warp allow one to load in a sample that maybe a little more than just a one shot sample and play it in a scale keygrouped, but with the same tempo just different pitch. Without warp, you have to accept that the note and the tempo are going to change (higher and lower up the scale as you play).

This option is only for MPC Software/controller mode, the MPC Live does not have keygroup warping in standalone either - I can't remember if this was available in standalone mode in a previous firmware, although I do seem to recall a post about using this a couple of years back and we wondered whether it was practical from a CPU-perspective. I guess it isn't - it would get pretty messy trying to warp all the notes in a keygroup program, warping is incredibly CPU intensive even on a single sample, let alone 128 of them (or more if using layers, plus all the CPU needed for the rest of your project). You have to accept that in standalone mode, there are stricter resource limits.

Now that they have plug-ins, I wonder if Akai is considering separating the internal programs types, dealing with samples, into their own plugins, rather than being "integrated"?

One could imagine how employing dedicated threads to various engines (e.g. the plugins) may help increase the overall usage and availability of CPU resources, rather than running "everything" with the traditional core spread.

The closest thing to Warping a Keygroup is.....

Warp a Sample in Drum Program Edit (Track Edit) page. then 16 Level it. I only use an Octave or two in Keygroups anyway lol
