I think "MPC Heads" just don't like it. You all seem to only want its bread & butter expanded. Others want exactly what Akai is doing. Personally, I like it. I too would like them to smash existing bugs and flesh out the bread & butter tools. But I also want VIs and other modern tools.

The MPC is a mannequin with no clothes on and every other updated, it's dressed up as someone else. They can't even marry their own product line together. What is the difference between the Akai Force and the MPC LIVE? Number of PADS, Qlinks, and Song Mode.

The truth is, people think the Akai Force is an MPC. Here's an idea, put all these sounds and plug in on the Akai Force and make that the sound module. Flush out the sampler and sequencer of the MPC's then create an AKAI link, that cascades them together.

I've got BFD3. Anyway, if they'd properly implement disc streaming, they could easily accommodate the entire BFD3 into RAM. But we all know how that's going...

I'm not at all familiar with the Force and would never use it because of the form factor.

I believe the updates are ordered not to alienate any users. Focus on only the sampler & sequencer and they'd be stuck with MPC Heads only. Focus only on stretching it out and you lose the Heads. I like how they're doing it, but like everyone else, wish they'd focus on my priorities.

Like EnochLight said, these are the best MPCs yet. The additions to the sampler & sequencer make that the case.

I do agree that they're missing the mark not creating an ecosystem. I'd be all in on an implemented Advance and fleshed out software. I would've bought a Live/Advance/AIR bundle. I'd get iMPC if it served more as a mobile software replaacement.

I feel one of their most missed opportunities is that they could have created an ecosystem that allowed us to buy standalone plugins on our standalone MPC's, and customize them to our needs. I'm thinking something like (the company formerly known as) Propellerhead's Rack Extensions. Had they created an SDK that allowed people to make plugins for the MPC, a store to buy them, and basically modeled it after what Propellerhead has done - you might have seen a massive influx of indie developers making standalone plugins FOR Akai. That ship has likely sailed, so I guess we'll have to wait for Akai to release the pittance of stuff they have planned.

Most of the feature requested by Power User are sampler, sequencer, and workflow based. I feel Akai Pro is marketing to an audience, who uses a $100 dollar MIDI Keyboard/drum pad and a bootleg copy of FL STUDIO.

I just don't think It's ever a good idea to ignore the power use. They're the user who bought the MPC LIVE when it was still in beta. Those are the guys who spend money and push the platform. I'm just not sure those guys, are the ones looking for more 2nd tier plug ins.

The market place would've been good 10 years ago, but with splice, sounds, roland cloud, tracklib, plugin-alliance etc. That's a tough business to be in right now.

I can't be sure what most folks do, but for every person on a forum not happy about "bloatware", there's someone happy to have them. My keyboard cost a lot more than $100 and I use paid for versions of Logic & Studio One, and Akai is marketing to me.

I don't think they're ignoring the power user. I think their definition of one is expanding beyond the person that only wants a new 4K. I'd be interested in sales numbers pre/post them expanding beyond sampler/sequencer, but I imagine something is telling them where to dedicate resources.

Instead of having an MPC as part of their studio, some people want their MPC to be their complete studio

If you ask people what they would expect from a sampling drumcomputer with a tight midi sequencer most people will roughly have the same idea. Ask people how their dreamstudio would look like and you’ll get a whole variety of answers.

And now people are :hmmm:  mad because Akai haven’t covered everything perfectly.

I disagree on this line being the best MPC line ever. It’s maybe the most feature packed one, but it doesnt do anything competition can’t, or isn’t revolutionary or ahead of it’s time in any way.

@Menco, I actually rely much more on my DAW and VIs. I write/sketch/sequence on my Live and then trigger VIs in my DAW with replacements for most sounds. Drums & chops stick many times, but plugins & keygroups typically get replaced.

But I think the point is that it's become more than just a sampling sequencer.

Best is relative. The feature set is what makes it the best IMO. And I think the feature set is beyond the competition. What other box comes with a DAW/software, can also be standalone, and have standalone plugins?

I'm curious why folks use the Live/X if all they want is the best sampler/sequencer. If I could do all I needed aside from mixing on an MPC, I'd get a 4K. That's the best MPC when it comes to just sampling & sequencing. I keep my Z4 around just in case my sampling/mangling needs ever exceed what the Live can do.

They know people want more, that's why they made the MPC SOFTWARE and gave the ability to work with a more powerful computer. The issue is the software is not up to par. Yes, I want a new 4K with all the bells and whistles because I'll use them all.

They're after Low hanging fruit and it obvious by how they market it. As far as numbers, I look at it like this. If the numbers were incredible, it would appear in the marketing. "100K Units Sold." The ISLA S2400 is going to switch lots of the MPC core audience over, not just because of the features and nostalgia. But because it appeals to the culture.

No marketing tricks, people get to see it coming together, honest interaction with the user. They treat the end-user as contemporaries and not fast food customers. There are lots of producer, who can't wait to get their hands on it. Plus everyone will have the same exact machine, so it's easier for everyone to be on the same page.

Just think about it, people are buying the SP 1200 for $3000+, the MPC 3000 for 2500+, The Roland TR 808 for $3000+ for a number of years. This was the time for MPC to drop a monster and reconnect to the people. But they chose, SPLICE, ABLETON LINK, Battery, and Tier 2 Plug ins.

I dunno... the MPC X retails for around $2200, it certainly isn't selling for pocket change... if I was Akai, I'd probably be taking this as a good sign, especially when it isn't designed to compete with the SP 1200, MPC 3000, or TR 808.

Time will tell, but I don't see the Isla 2400 competing directly with the MPC X either... sure maybe some people make the transition, but what do I know. I had been keen on it, but have subsequently cooled down... I don't need more of "that sound" gear, I just need something consistent and reliable.

I am with you though... while I get SPLICE, I am meh on it... Ableton Link, while well implemented goes against my interest in standalone, and the plugins are there, but not something I really go to. I have accepted I am not the target audience for most of Akai's MPC updates at this time.

Personally, I will be keeping an eye out on the Live mk2, if it is basically a Live with a speaker, hand rest, and CV outs... I'm going to be pretty uninterested, on the other hand they absolutely could increase internal storage, add more memory and a faster cpu that is backwards compatible, and setup for a possible mk2 line up into the future... they'll at least have grabbed my attention in a way that they don't have right now.

But... I am not the target audience right now :D
