Akai MPC X | Softube Console 1 System

Bezo, didn't know you had S1. It's good to be in the company of people who actually have it, and knows how it works. I dive in that sucka everyday. I know Reason in and out, but now diving deep into S1, so I can start using it more. Having the VCA and Bussing is so so so sweet! I can glue my tracks together for a better mix.

Yeah, there are a few features missing with Logic according to their chart. Logic is my alternative/backup DAW, so I'm Ok with this.

The combo seems to do near everything I'd need with S1. I imagine it would still fall short compared to the Faderport 16, but I like the form factor more. I'm in a writing/creative mode, so I have a bit more time to decide before any serious mixing needs to be done.[/quote]

I'm gonna have to order a cover for the loveseat, I can't have our 3 cats hanging out like that on it. Anyway, I'm having some weird trouble getting the two-sided velcro to stick to the acoustic treatment so I'm gonna order some more, in the meantime, this will be my temporary setup until my new studio furniture arrives in 2 months. I'm gonna test out Logic see how it works with my Console 1ecosystem...

I'm looking into a 40 inch TV or 32 inch computer monitor. I realllllllllllyyyyyy want that 40 inch LOL I will do it HDMI. I'm going to mount it, but I might be over doing it with the 40 inch, but I realllllyyyyy want it LOL

Now that I'm finally testing it out and hearing what it sounds like for myself, I can say with great certainty that the Softube Console 1 ecosystem is the absolute best investment I've made for my studio.

The tactile controls not only feels great, but the plugin is incredibly useful and sounds amazingly good. The best part is all the information I need is immediately in front of me on the hardware, so there is no looking up at the screen, which is how I prefer to work because then my ears can make the decisions for me.

Its the way it should be when it comes to modern-day mixing; you shouldn't have to be glued to a computer screen second-guessing yourself; everything should flow with ease.

I also now think Softube's SSL 4000 E-Series console model is brilliant in other ways as it's low CPU usage makes a discernable difference compared to my other SSL 4000 E plugins.

The EQ is very musical, and the dynamics are very responsive. The experience feels like second nature after a few minutes of getting familiar with the controls' layout.

There's also no rocket science involved in the learning curve, everything makes perfect sense, and you can figure things out rather quickly. The quick start guide for each controller is a two-sided one sheet, and I haven't even read any of them yet.

The real star of the Console 1 ecosystem is the sound. It's warm, punchy, musical, and although a plugin, it's analog.

I'm delighted with this decision, and I should have jumped this sooner.

I'm sorry to report that after hours of trying to make it happen, that Softube's Console 1 does not work with MPC Software. This is disappointing, but it works with Studio One and that is great because you can use MPC Software as a plugin within Studio One...

Ummm...... you have nothing to be sorry about bro. Akai's software doesn't work with a lot of things, I experienced it not working with plugins. To me was a no no.

S1 is a different beast. You're going to love it in combination with Console 1 and fader.

I already love the Console 1, Console 1 Fader, Studio One combination. Whenever Softube gets around to focusing control for Universal Audio's LUNA it's game over for all other DAWs.

You think Luna will take over Protools HDX systems in major studios? I wont be coping Luna or getting it free and spending more dough for that stuff you have to buy. Im ITB and S1 and Reason suit me well.

How many people have bit the bullet to switch to Luna?

My boy has C1 and Kontakt Complete Maschine MKlll. He is in love wuth S1v5. He said he isnt going to do Luna.

What does Luna do other DAWs can't?

LUNA has the sound I prefer. I was already invested in my Apollo system and Mac long before there was a LUNA, but it all comes down to the way it sounds. Before you apply the Studer tape and Neve Summing you immediately notice the same tracks you import in Studio One or Logice Pro X sounds bigger, punchier, warmer and just better overall. I don't how they done it, but whatever Universal Audio has done to get it sound like that is working. Softube already has Apollo Central control for Universal Audio's Console, so I hope this will lead to similar features for LUNA because then I can just work in one DAW as opposed to three which is what I realize I will have to do to get the sound I want for my final mixes...

For the people that don't have Apollo etc are looking at the price tag, complaining about it so....

That's a lot of Software DAWS to use. What are you doing on each of them, that they're all yielding different results?

There might not be a music video for the current single, Arkidelik have personal affairs to tend to and I'm about to prepare for mixing the next single featuring Marr'z Atomz as well Afrocop's album and the 7's album.

That's a lot of Software DAWS to use. What are you doing on each of them, that they're all yielding different results?

Yes, but I'm dedicated to getting the sound I want. It's no different from what we used to do way back in the 80's and 90s:

- Make beats at home and prepare samples using Tascam M-Series console
- Track beats at I.N.S. using their MCI 636 and whatever available outboard gear
- Track vocals at Funky Slice using their MCI 626 console and whatever available outboard gear
- Mix at Quad, Unique, Power Play, or Hit Factory using their SSL console and whatever available outboard gear

The only difference to me is I'm no longer jumping from cab to cab going from studio to studio. As long as I get the sound I want that's all that matters to me....
