MPC 2500 timing and latency

Funny, this unit is the worst MPC ever in terms of latency/timing technically. And to me personally also sound + pad wise.

Used it one day, immediatly sold it. 5K might be even worse, but man those were **** boxes.. cracky pots after 1 year use.

What MPCs did you test...? The good thing about it is JJOS + bigscreen option.

Man,,,,,your talking like a drunk yourself.Yeah those boxes might not have had the best overall tight timing and had some probs but they had a some soul.Unlike the new plastic stuff your banging on

Edit-anyway 4000 slays them all ]]

I put my money on Quickstrike. On any MPC!

But I'm starting to see each MPC serves a purpose. I use the MPCX for trap music only. Slow and fast repeated hi-hats by using note repeat. If you try to do that by hand you will see that the clock is drifting out of time plus with added latency makes it almost impossible to play stuff by hand. I'm not sure what kind of style of music you're making but the latency issue has been here and has not really gotten that much better. especially not good with disc streaming. Hopefully they design some type of special midi driver

Also discovery with timing (applies to 2.7 firmware). When changing the internal 960 PPQ resolution I realized that my fast hi-hats (32nd) don't sound as cha cha as much. if i put it on 96 the sound of sequence sounds a lot more glued together.

I can't believe my eyes man. So much bullcrap in 1 post...

Resolution 960 ppq or 96 ppq DOESNT MATTER WHEN YOU QUANTIZE. --> BUSTED.

low and fast repeated hi-hats by using note repeat. If you try to do that by hand you will see that the clock is drifting out of time

Dude... really? you know almost all mpcs have note repeat.. right? no.. apparently you don't.. also.. it doesnt matter if you play it, or just sequence it.. the same latency should (NOT) occur.

Hopefully they design some type of special midi driver

internal hats have NOTHING TO DO WITH MIDI TIMING.

godd please let this kids dissapear from this once beautiful community. you kids are ignorant AF and have ZERO clue what you are talking about.

NOTHING of what you just said makes sense whatsoever.

JESUS.

I should unregister from this crap over here.. people on here are totally fckn drunk!

Some persons will not notice anything and some others are more sentitive.

What you say is true. Then again, there's some people that refuse to acknowledge evidence even when the testing methods are provided. Some tool over at Gearslutz refused to believe there was any measurable latency whatsoever just because he could plug his guitar into his MPC Live and said it sounded fine. He has since been banned because he was a cancer there, but it just goes to show you - even when evidence is presented, some people keep their eyes closed and ears plugged just so they can believe what they want.

Is it, though? For all you know, these guys who did the testing or discussed issues they're having could be banging out plenty of music. Try not to assume that people aren't making music just because in their spare time they're on the Internet **** around. That's why we're all here in this forum.

It's not what they talk about, it's how they talk it. As for Quickstrike, his tech talk is 100% connected to making music and that's not an assumption. :smoker:

I never noticed any latency but apparently some do. Faulty units?

Uhm, sorry.. but big NO.

We were talking about timing... they had THE WORST TIMING of all boxes after the 5000. Did you even own a 2500? Those are tech facts, not my opinion. My opinion doesn't matter, but many share it with me, the 2500 also sounded bad and build quality was poor.. again, just my opinion - opinions dont really matter, I agree.

But the "plastic"stuff you mention, did you try it already yourself? I hate the new boxes (anything after the 4000..) Like I said, I'm a veteran on the 4000 for 15+ years. The reason I just gave the unit away says enough about how happy I am with the new line of MPC's - and I just got the cheap version (One). The new line is totally awesome man, even the build quality is much better than those nukai toys (500, 1000, 2500, 5000).

It difficult to say, but the only time I've experience latency is when the unit is on for a couple hours.

Ive had multiple instances of All MPCs post 3000 since 1998.Started with the 2000 OG.If you talking about how the MPC stands up in a clinical situation ie on a grid on a daw for instance,i dont know. Why cos i make music.Grids are my enemy. But how they sound when they are just jamming along?had no problem really with any of them. And not really notices any latency either. From the stand alone machines. But yeah if your measuring them up i imagine there is some ???s.Araab music and Spinscott does not seem to have a problem with the build quality and latency in the Numarks and those guys burn them.My issue personally for ME is the new range seem sterile and got no vibe to them. But are great if you wanna do that your self. But def certain things missing on the Live/X/One even from the Numark models (JJOS) Was thinking of getting a One but i think i will try something with a bit more analog in the path.I got the SW on the MBP anyhow.

BTW got a 4000 here which def adds something to the mix.Altho its not always what i want. The search for the perfect machine is never ending :smoker:

Ive had the Live and the X btw.Theres so much in these boxes when sometimes you just want a funking dirty lil sampler. In some respects the Numarks deliver this with some processing can sound raw/imperfect/vibey......

Yeah, Araab had a lot of fans, but to me he is just a joke that tries to tap as fast as he can, it's not really that he stresses the unit to the max, as in putting 1000s of notes spread over multiple tracks.. he just used 2 samples and banged away.. horrible perfomance in my eyes xDD. It not burning them, it's using them differently, just fast notes is not stressing the unit at all! its mostly 4 notes at once simultaneously xD (i dont know this spinscott but by mentioning araab i already know enough i guess..)

They seem sterile with no vibe because you probably are biased by previous units thinking of MPCs.
They simply sound MUCH better and even the pads (but this is very personal) are better (for me).

So, what do you miss? I had a JJ 2500 and a 4000, I can't think of anything I can't do on the box that I could on my JJ/4K.

A bit more analog in the path? Man generation gaps are killing me in 2020 xD....... you mean an analog synth or drums or what?

The new MPCs simply are better, it's a nobrainer, sorry. On all aspects it's better, only left is emotional/visual/atmospherical stuff (which is very important in making music, dont get me wrong here!!!)

Yeah I’m not into Araab ect.Just that the machines dont have latency i reckon doing that kinda of thing. They are simple and do one job ectect. The thing i like because ive always had it until computer set ups......is when you sample in or play back through an older (even Numarks) there is some change in sound that blurs the edges of perfection (people gravitate towards that in some ways,Can be good and often bad) and with the new ones its kinda perfect.Just left me a bit cold/uninspired.Yeah probably and emotional reaction.Ok one thing you can do in the 2500 and the 4000 is Q lik the pitch which feels very analog like a record..The new ones is step step step ( .Hate that. On the 4000 most parameters can be set to Q links and effect part of the whole sequence like control all on the Electrons,Crazy I use this all the time, plus free running LFOS and mod matrix synth like. Also the older MPs kinda just gel together better, fuse the audio, compact the sounds so in that way i like a lot too.New ones its all just too clear and clean.Ocviously thats a good thing in a way.The analog part is missing.Meaning the grunge on the way in and out.The smearing of edges. Can be pleasant.I realise this is not everyone’s taste....lol.But it is a part of older Hiphop and dance culture. The is really zero grunge in the new boxes unless you enter it....... 8)

Back too latency and timing.Never had a problem i remember with the new range live/X/One.Once everything is stacked up inside maybe the Numarks were crap tho.I guess just use what you like. And what works,For me its the sound (grungy can be good too) groove and feel. And people have found that with all the different versions, even the 500 gets a good rap !!!!
